Backlash growing against the progressive Reps?
Edited on Wed Jan-20-10 10:07 PM by Clio the Leo
This post is indicative of a trend I saw growing today...

Calling Nadler

TPM Reader GM checks in.

Regarding your most recent post, "No Need to Push,"
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2010/01/no_need_to_push.php

I thought I would share my story.
I called up my congressman, Rep. Nadler, of the West Side of Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn (I live on the Upper West Side). More than the MA Senate result, I was unhappy with his comment that you reported in this link
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/01/determined-or-delusional-house-leadership-sounds-optimistic-on-hcr.php

I want a bill. I want some concrete results. This has taken too long. Saying that you aren't satisfied with the Senate bill on the day when this entire bill is teetering on the brink of failure, is just terrible PR.

I first called at around 11am this morning, to his D.C. office and the line was busy. I then called his Manhattan number and immediately reached a live person. I told him that I supported the Senate HCR bill and that I wanted results. The receptionist told me that he would pass on my comment to Rep. Nadler. Then I called his D.C. office again, this time without a busy signal. I said the same thing, and was asked for my contact information, I assume just to get on a mailing list. I didn't really get any substantive information, but I got to vent a little and feel better.

If guys like Weiner and Nadler can't get behind something that can pass, then why do we elect liberal Democrats? Keep fighting!

Please don't use my real name on the off chance you post it.

It's easy to understand why the progressives in the House are frustrated and not willing to just pass the Senate bill and move on. They compromised and compromised and compromised and no doubt fully expected to be able to move the bill back their direction during the conference report.

But we're running out of options and running out of time. And the American people are ready to move on to something else.

1. Progressives have got to be the grownups now.
Obama's lack of a backup plan and the Senate's general fecklessness has left this entirely in the progressives hands.

They do this right, they get to be heroes.

2. Exactly....
... and I hope no one takes my post as bashing them because I can understand why they are recluctant to pass the Senate bill. But the progressives have ALWAYS been the ones who looked after the best interest of the less fortunate in this country and we are THIS CLOSE to changing the lives of millions.

This is NOT the time to forget about the ones who they no doubt ran for office to look out for.

3. As An Upper West Sider

I think the Senate bill stinks and so do my immediate neighbors. I was unhappy with Nadler's stance on impeachment and if he folds on this I will be very unhappy with him. If anecdotal stories are being handed out as proof of a [position's validity, here's mine to the opposite.
