Obama now has an historic opportunity to craft HCR reform on his terms

Watch him tak to a populist mode during the SOTU.

Watch him rail against the now uncheckable power (ref: SCUTUS) of the insurance lobby and say he is bound a determined to protect them against their power.


Watch him call for bipartisan support for insurance reform (on caps and preesisitng conditions, et al)
Watch him call for the ability to Health insurance exchanges, and the ability for states to form interstate compacts starting with state employees ans opening those plans up to anyone.
Watch him tell Congress that if they do not move this reform package forward in a month, he will reconvene them and move legislation to take away the anti-trust exemption and by executive order freeze healthcare premiums and co-pays at Jan 1,1010 rates.

No Public Option. No Single Payer. Paint the Insureance companies as evil. Paint himself as a populist. And dare Congress to defy him.

agree -- ideally he will have conceded that he will get no support from the Republicans, and take this opportunity to make it what so many of us want and need. Ideally. We'll see.

Now that we have less vote, the chances are better for a more liberal bill. I guess that explains why both House and Senate Dems are now talking about "paring back" (not beefing up) the HCR bill.

Progressives love to cut off their nose in spite of their face and that's exactly what they've done. They're all over TV, radio, blogs bragging about "sending a message to Washington," and "Do you hear us now?" Well, Congress received your message loud and clear, and they've interpretted it as less spending and less intrusive health care reform. Congratulations!
