House panel to hold hearing on campaign finance decision
House panel to hold hearing on campaign finance decision
By Jordan Fabian - 01/21/10 02:16 PM ET

The Committee on House Administration announced Thursday that it will hold a hearing next month on a Supreme Court decision that significantly altered campaign finance law.

Rep. Robert Brady's (D-Pa.) panel became the second congressional committee to say it will hold a hearing on the Court's decision to lift limits on corporate spending on politics.

"I will be working directly with my colleagues, the leadership and the White House to study the Court’s decision and to put together a timeline for legislative action that ensures the Court’s decision will not define the ways elections are conducted in 2010," Brady said in a statement.

Brady criticized the Supreme Court's 5-4 decision on Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission as an edict that "laid waste to measures that prohibit these entities from exercising massive and unchecked influence over the American voting system."

Senate Rules Committee chairman Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) also said Thursday that his panel will convene a hearing and said he will introduce legislation to mitigate the Court's decision.

Two Republican leaders praised the decision.

4. Well, I guess just when you thought there was no difference between the parties...
At least one of our guys wants to hold hearings while McConnell and Cornyn are happy as clams. Not that this makes everything okay, but it's the first hopeful sign I've seen since this morning.

10. Beck co opted the anger of the teaparties and put it toward getting the neo cons back in power
again. The teabaggers originally influenced by Ron Paul, as nutty as they are, actually did want corps out of the political arena. But these people called themselves The Tea Party to begin with, not the smartest bulbs on the planet.

13. Has McCain weighed in yet if he would support bipartisan campaign finance reform again, or

is he too busy picking out the kitchen granite for his new corporate-financed summer home
now that the Supreme Court has overturned his and Feingold's law?

If we don't get at least 60 Senate votes on this, it sadly isn't going anywhere fast.
