1. I fucking know it.
That's a story you hear at the end of the local news broadcast. NOT something worthy of breaking news coverage. :eyes:

It's not like there's wars or earthquakes or famines or anything.

He was there to get baptized, and something went horribly wrong. :evilfrown:

Isn't that that little stream in the concrete canal where they film all the chase scenes?

44. Isn't it almost freakishly ususual for the L.A. River to be that high?
Usually, when you see it on action shows, it's nearly dry.

(And, for the record, I'm glad they saved the dog...although the dog bit the hell out of the guy who saved him, so you could call him an ingrate.)

46. Oh I've seen it high several times in my life, in the Storm of 1969 it almost over flowed its banks
Where I lived we were almost evacuated as the water was almost over topping the flood control dam above us.

The dog is not who we are all pissed off at. I haven't seen the story, but I will always celebrate a rescue--of human or animal, alike.

20. It's not about heartlessness, it's about what the press chooses to cover
It's the idea that they think this is the MOST IMPORTANT thing they could be putting on tv.

Nobody has it in for the dog.

All this is is incredulity at media priorities.

36. Not dark and brooding. But they should stick to the stuff that matters.
There's no place for cute puppies and tracking shots of kids in water fountains on a 30 minute(22 after corporate propaganda)newscast.

News is what's supposed to be there.

34. Exactly. Now they don't have to spend a lot of time on the rescue ...
but seeing compassion between species is heart-warming. Lord knows we don't treat members of our own species right most of the time.

22. I haven't seen this story yet
I will look for it later or tomorrow (at work now, until 11 or so and then probably heading out for drinks) but I am happy that they are covering something positive. A rescue of an animal or person can be very uplifting and positive. Most of the news these days is negative. It's a refreshing change. No, it's not the most important thing going on right now. But if it puts a smile on a person's face for 30 seconds or so, how is that a bad thing?

Everyone's amazed by the fact that the dog didn't get immediately melted into goo by all the pollutants.

Thus, getting it out of there becomes a time-sensitive issue.

OMG, look! A dog! In sort of a river. Walking. In one foot of water.

Some viewers are entertained by stories about dogs - any dogs, anywhere, doing anything. Apparently, Animal Planet isn't available in some parts of the country.
