Prediction: It will be Barack Obama vs. Mitch Daniels in 2012

I live in Louisville, Kentucky on the border with Indiana, and I'm telling you guys, this Republican governor of Indiana is a first-rate governor (in his second term) who gets things done, and he comes right out of the Reagan administration, which would make the right wing sanguine.

Imagine this: Mitch Daniels and Scott Brown, a GOP ticket that could actually win against Obama.

I honestly do think this is the GOP's now-secret weapon.

How are the Democrats and Obama going to respond? By truly fighting for us, or continuing to cave?

Because if they continue caving, we will actually see most independents and even many Democrats voting for Daniels/Brown.

(I apologize if this scenario scares anyone, but I honestly see it coming)

Mitch. his big plan a few years ago to reduce waits in government was to change the renewal time for Drivers license from 4 to 6 years. but the dude did a hell of a job tearing up and privatizing the Government of Indiana.

21. If you're right, then this Daniels guy

has a very long way to go on getting some national name recognition in the next year. Since the 2012 campaign pretty much starts the day after the 2010 election (at least when there is not an incumbent or a heir apparent for a party), then I'd say old Mitch really has his work cut out for him.

Duncan Hunter was palatable to a large segment of the far right, but even though he'd been in Congress since 1981, he chose the pre-primary debates leading up to the 2008 election to make his name known. That's way too late. With three 24/7 news networks, and a slew of Sunday morning talking heads shows that are usually starving for guests, there's no excuse for behaving like an unknown if you really want to be a serious Presidential contender.

He won a single election in a perfect storm of backlash against Democrats against a virtually non-existent opposing campaign. They guy isn't Teflon, and by all indications is a male Sarah Palin.

The GOP is very much a royalist party in awarding its presidential nomination, and that militates toward Romney, Palin, or Huckabee being nominated in 2012. There's no recent precedent of Republicans nominating a "new face" for president. The last instance of anything like that was Eisenhower getting the nod over "Mr. Republican" Robert A. Taft in 1952, and Ike had a towering war hero stature not comparable to anything today--besides having been very carefully groomed by the long-defunct Northeast Republican establishment.

30. Brown will not and cannot be on the ticket - he is pro-choice

Mitch Daniels is not - so it might be possible. No pro-choice Republican can under current political realties be either the Presidential or Vice Presidential candidate. It is simply not plausible. Also, given the realities as they are one or both GOP candidates need to be fairly outspoken as conservative/Evangelical Christians. I gather Mitch Daniels is very soft spoken about religious matters although on the issues he might be acceptable. Scott Brown is at best a nominally religious and again - pro-choice Protestant.
