CNN poll: 56 percent oppose stimulus program

A majority of Americans oppose the economic stimulus program championed by President Obama and passed by a Democratically-controlled Congress, according to a new national poll out Sunday.

Washington (CNN) - A majority of Americans oppose the economic stimulus program, according to a new national poll.

Fifty-six percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Sunday say they oppose the stimulus package, with 42 percent supporting it.

Last March, just weeks after the stimulus bill was signed into law by President Barack Obama, a CNN poll indicated that 54 percent of the public supported the program, with 44 percent opposed.

The program, formally known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, attempts to stimulate the country's economy by increasing federal government spending and cutting taxes at a total cost to the government of $787 billion. No Republicans in the House and only three in the Senate voted in favor of the bill.

2. Maybe to set the stage for opposing the Jobs Bill?

Republicans are saying the Jobs Bill is really just Stimulus II. Perhaps this poll is being touted as an argument in their favor? The Jobs Bill includes a lot of money to help stabilize the states and Republicans oppose this. If the GOP manage to turn the Job Bill into Baby Stimulus in the public's mind, then said Jobs Bill will probably fail and Obama will not be able to get anything meaningful this year to help the working and middle class.

Just a guess.

5. Like most cheap media polls in America- the point is to influence public opinion

and create talking points and memes to frame what passes for "debate" on the issues in the corporate media.

And- considering the low level of critical thinking in the nation- it's been a successful strategy.

6. I don't get it. if CNN evil, why did they find high approval for the stimulus in Feb. and March?

I personally support the stimulus because without it we'd be in the crapper. But we should separate our opinions from the opinions of Americans in general. I think Americans are wrong. But I don't think the numbers are fake.

The CNN found approval for the stimulus to be 54% in March and 60% in February, in contrast to today's 42%. Why didn't they want to bring Obama down back then? Did CNN just replace a good CEO with a bad one?

8. notice this week's 24/7 "investigation" on CNN of the stimulus package...

It's just about on every single show, starting off with that snarky smug asshole Roberts in the morning, right up to Anderson Cooper at 10:00... It started yesterday, and I was surprised to see Jessica Yellen (not sure that's how you spell it) get a little excited defending Obama and the stimulus, which kinda surprised me. I wondered if this very timely poll was released to support their consistently negative reporting of "just where your money went" - and the constant repetition of CNN's newest moronic connecting-with-the-public question: "what's going on here????!!!"

I'm beginning to really dislike them.

Notice their "Stimulus Project" investigation bullshit that's going on 24/7 starting today (actually, it started yesterday on that money show). Tear it down, criticize, point out the PORK PORK PORK. I'll be very interested to see how many Republican pork projects they highlight, and how many Republicans they call hypocrits for taking the pork and then criticizing the bill.
