In defense of South Carolina, I give you NJ's new governor, Chris Christie
Edited on Sun Jan-24-10 06:53 PM by brentspeak
People are understandably outraged by neo-euthanasist and prospective South Carolina gubernatorial candidate Andre Bauer's comments that providing state-funded meals for poor children is like http://www.greenvilleonline.com/article/20100124/NEWS/1240308/1004/NEWS01/Bauer-criticism-grows">"feeding stray animals".

But ruthless, every-man-for-himself ideology isn't just a deep South thing; it's crept into supposedly "blue state" NJ, too: Chris Christie promises to slash funding for food pantries because he likens feeding the hungry to http://www.nj.com/news/ledger/jersey/index.ssf?/base/news-15/1259114704220280.xml&coll=1">"going on a spending spree."

NJ has plenty of Fox News and Rush Limbaugh-believers who think this guy is the second coming of Christ.

This nation needs a resurgence of New Deal-type Democrats, because the Ronald Reagan worshipers are coming out of the woodwork, eager to knee-cap everyone who isn't a multi-millionaire.

1. People in NJ were angry.
What did they expect voting for a corrupt moron?

2. NJ has its fair share of teabagging nutjobs
many viewed Christie as not conservative enough and instead favored his primary opponent Steve Lonegan.

As for the food pantry thing--- I'm going to take a cheap shot and say that Christie just wants all the food for himself.

3. Please give him away!
I'm from NJ too, actually even from the county that this jerk is from. If there is any hope here it is that we have a very dominant Democratic legislature and the fact that, unlike Kean or Whitman (at least before she was photographed frisking a black teen that the police already frisked.), who many respected Christie managed to be kicked off the County Freeholder's board when he was up for re-election. Now, in Morris County, the Democrats have absolutely no power - he lost to a team of Republicans who were all more popular than he was - once people knew him.

4. We lost control of Monmouth County too
apparently Christie had coattails here and our awesome freeholder candidate lost by 30K votes to a teabagging nutjob.

Our Lt Gov is even worse-- apparently she's a closet white supremacist and told someone at one of the campaign events I went to "get back in your place n-word" (she wishes she had that on video to put it on youtube)

5. We always lose Morris,
The goal of official Democrats, other than winning the few town races in the county that can be won, is to limit the statewide totals of the Republican.

I knew next to nothing about the Lt Governor - that sounds bad.

7. we were slowly trending blue until last yaer
when we took a sharp right turn. Lost the freeholder board too, but have a chance to regain control this year.

I know nothing about her except that sound byte, and she was our sheriff. Apparently she's not very well liked in her own county.

8. Hey guess what ...
they supreme court ruling knocks the wind out his sails about unions funding elections. He wrote his type of Executive Order. And now he can throw it out the window, cause it ain't no good no more.
