Beyond that he spent us into debt.

Now, Thatcher actually cut spending, THEN cut taxes. This is closer to what folks are saying is going on here.

1. True about Reagan (and W.orthless Bush). Not true about Obama.

Recall that McCain, in the 2008 debates, said he would have an across-the-board spending cut. This meant that everything including defense spending would be cut. Everyone fell out of their chairs laughing. The Obama plan is actually worse than McCain's bad idea because it cuts important things, but doesn't touch worthless defense spending.

We can't compare it to Reagan. Obama's plan is simply the wrong idea at the wrong time.

4. Hoover's policies reinforced existing economic power structures, FDR's

expanded them by empowering unions through the Wagner Act (Sen. Robert Wagner of NY introduced a lot of the White House's legislation) and programs such as the CCC, WPA, PWA individualized relief rather than relying on your company through the Hoover-created Reconstruction Finance Corporation for economic help.

5. Hoover was wrongly looked at in history. He increased spending and taxes.

He just did the increase in spending too slowly. Actually, FDR criticized Hoover during the election for being a tax and spender. FDR used many of Hoover's ideas and implemented them in a stronger and faster way. Without Hoover, no one would have thought to turn to the govt. for help. Hoover started that. FDR was the one who cut spending in 1937...to his work programs as well as other areas. He thought the economy was getting strong enough to turn around on its own. He was wrong. Obama is not cutting anything from his stimulus. He is proposing cuts in some areas and spending in other areas.

6. Yes. What he did showed FDR what would not work well enough or fast enough, BUT...

Hoover was a much more patient man than FDR, hence Hoover's trashing - I kid you not - of the fact that FDR was not a fly fisherman, that he used bait on his hook for quicker results. Really, Hoover said that.

Hoover, like Carter was a good man in the wrong place at the wrong time.

7. Tired of seeing people not knowing history.

Hoover was not a bad man but did not react quickly enough. By today's standards of Rethugs he would be considered downright caring.

8. Yes, he certainly would. That's why FDR supported Hoover for Prez at one point.

Same for Lou Hoover. A real opportunity lost.

But, 'cool' usually wins and HH and Lou had no personal charisma or ooomph. The Roosevelts, conversely, oozed the stuff and had already been beaten up enough by life to be tough enough to take the knocks being in the White House had to give.

9. My kitty, Daisy. She is only a year old.

Rescued from an animal shelter. Lots of love given by me, my husband, and my two daughters, ages 4 and 5. She knocked an ornament a day off the Christmas Tree while it was up. Wild kitty.
