3. They didn't. Both party votes were split.

You've got Boxer, Feingold, and Kerry voting yes right along with people like Graham, Corker, and Bond. And folks like Stabenow and Whitehouse voting against. Very interesting.

4. Well there is the question of why the GOP didn't all vote yea.

Some of them were afraid that there might be tax increases. Plus, in case you haven't noticed, many of the Congressional GOP will vote against anything that looks like it was a Democrat's idea.

I thought this was going to come up as S.2853. And check it out, this piece of shit would have passed it it had not been for GOP opposition.

5. Votes all over the place--rare indeed

Perhaps this was a rare moment in which senators were actually voting what they believed instead of strictly on party lines? Maybe not, but I wish we could see more votes like this.

Yeas include liberals Boxer, Durbin, Feingold, Franken, Kerry, Leahy ... and conservatives Alexander, Bond, Chambliss. Isaakson ...

Nays include liberals Harkin, Reed, Whitehouse ... and consevatives Bennett, Bunning, DeMint ...

I can't figure it out at all.
