"ABC: John And Elizabeth Edwards Legally Separate"
Sad news .... but GOOD for her. The notion of the faithful wife standing beside her cheating, politico husband is BEYOND played out.

ABC: John And Elizabeth Edwards Legally Separate
Rachel Slajda | January 27, 2010, 2:18PM

Former presidential candidate and Sen. John Edwards has legally separated from his wife, ABC News reports.

According to "a source close to Elizabeth Edwards," John Edwards has moved out of the couple's home in North Carolina.

Last week, Edwards admitted to fathering a child, now 2 years old, with Rielle Hunter, a videographer who worked on his presidential campaign. He is being investigated for payments he made to Hunter during that time.

5. He has now reached complete irrelevancy
But goddamnit, all this news kind of makes me a little less pissed off that bush stole the 04 presidential election from Kerry.

This piece o shit would probably be our VP right now.

6. Well he would have been VP instead of Cheney, Cheney might not be screwing around on his wife..
...but was involved in things just as, if not substantially more evil

9. Oh, come on. WTF?!?
He's a piece of shit and a philanderer, but Kerry/Edwards would still have been FAR better for the country than Bush/Cheney.

There are at least two major reasons you should NEVER be "a little less pissed off" about Bush '04: Chief Justice John Roberts, Justice Samuel Alito.

13. Since you lack a point of reference as to how pissed off I was before
You should not judge the degree to which I am currently pissed off about the 04 election theft.

Shit, I'm probably more pissed off about it than you are right now.

But all the revelations about the Edwards sleazy behavior makes me less pissed off now than I was then.

10. It doesn't me. While what he did is represhensible, it is personal.
What Bush and his cabal did is public, meaning it personally and directly affects us all. The argument could be made that clearly Edwards is dishonest, but dishonesty in marriage isn't the same as dishonesty leading to war. Bill Clinton lied about an affair, and he is beloved. The difference, of course, if Elizabeth Edwards has/had cancer. But it was still a lie. For me, the difference is the public versus personal lie. As many have said, when Clinton lied, no one died. If we'd had Kerry/Edwards, while Edwards is a liar, his lie was personal and no one died as a direct effect of his lie.

Geesh. I rambled. I hope I made some sense!

Anyway, regardless, I find this sad. Whenever a marriage breaks up, and there is dishonesty, the poor kids suffer. My heart goes out to them. I have no personal stake in the Edwards' situation, and I can think what I want, but to them, he is Dad, and it is hard to see the fall of a parent.

14. I understand what you are saying and I agree with you.
I can separate his public life from his private life. It saddens me that his poor judgment and his callous actions have hurt so many people, but it is his personal business.

What really boggles my mind is that he entertained thoughts of running for President, knowing that he had this hanging over his head. What if he had already been nominated as the Democratic candidate when this hit the fan? We would have had McCain/Palin for sure. He took a big risk that could have jeopardized our entire country.

21. That is what is so sickening about this whole thing.
He could have stuck us with McCain/Palin. I fear Palin more than McCain, honestly. The idea of the insane woman anywhere near the White House terrifies me.

11. You prefer Cheney????
I always assumed that when Kerry spoke of knowing that there were things he should have done differently, that giving in to the media and the party to take Edwards, over his own negative gut feeling was high on the list.

12. Heavens.. Even on his worst, most smarmy day...
Edwards has never shown himself to be the murderous psychopath that is Cheney... Selfish, arrogant, irresponsible, asshole, yes. But, next to Cheney? There is no choice.

16. He would NOT have self-destructed like this. He ended up with too much time on his hands
Edited on Wed Jan-27-10 03:45 PM by blm
and a bunch of unobservant nimrods telling him that HE should have been the nominee instead of Kerry. He lost complete control over his ego.

7. I hate most how Elizabeth has been portrayed...
Good Lord, the trauma and stress she has faced-- it is a wonder she can get up in the morning, yet some feel the need to paint her understandable reactions as that of a "bitch." I'd love to smack the shit out of Halperin & Heileman for that hatchet job on Elizabeth. They are low life opportunists.

17. I thoroughly condemn what Edwards did
There is no excuse or justification for it. I do hope, however, that someone in the near future will embrace and run on the same populist platform that he espoused. We are indeed two Americas, and even though the messenger was flawed, the message was important.

18. I'm sure it will happen - Edwards was not the first or the last to run on that message
and some like Mario Cuomo had a lifetime of work that matched the words. I'm sure the policy makers and strategists who actually created the program that he was the public face of may remain in politics and they will likely find a better person to put their trust in.
