Just 40% of Arizonans approve of the job McCain is doing for them in D.C., according to the poll. In January of 2006, that number was 60%. It's not clear how much of an impact the tanking numbers will have on McCain's primary battle with conservative J.D. Hayworth. McCain does better with Republicans than he does with the rest of the state. He's got a 52% approval rating among the GOP.

the Blue dogs are looked at by many Democrats, sure he has the "right letter" next to his name, but when you really need his vote on something important, are you sure you're going to get it?

In this case, I'd much prefer to see McCain prevail in his primary then go on to lose the GE (which, if these poll numbers hold up and we get a viable candidate on our side, might actually have a shot at happening this year..)

But yeah, as an Arizonan, if it must be a Repub, I'd MUCH rather keep McCain then get a total Teabagger nutjob like Hayworth in his place..:puke:

7. He's been anti-earmark for at least 20 years. That's not the issue.

His problem is that as he's become more reasoned in his approach, the rabid right pounce on every compromise he makes on polarizing issues.

Take a look at Obama's numbers in self-labelled progressives for a similar political issue, where both parties are losing numbers to "independents", and then stir in an 'zonie mindset.

He didn't do that well in the AZ Presidential Primary having the lowest homestate numbers of any of the major contenders.

With a Teabagger in the race, I would have thought that McCain would be polling WORSE with Republicans than with the rest of the state.
