unless he REALLY pisses off the base of the party. Sure folks like myself haven't gotten a lot of what we want this past year, but if the choice in 2012 is BHO or Sarah Frickin' Palin, who in their right mind would stay home out of spite? Not even the most dedicated progressive would want to punish a Democratic President by electing a slow-witted gun nut to the Oval Office.

I think he has alot of potential. 2009 was alot of growing pains and honestly, I highly doubt any one of us could have done better even if we posted her in DU that we could.

10. It's exceeding rare that the party in power doesnt', plus...

the Dem majorities in both houses are so enormous that they simply have more seats to be lost. Not many GOP seats to take, and many that remain are solidly in inbred/banjo-land.

You can get things done with a smaller majority, and it might even be easier if some of the blue dogs/DINOs get "retired", as the caucus will be more cohesive. Going to take some bare-knuckle tactics in dealing with the folks across the aisle though. You can talk nice in public, but you better kick some ass behind closed doors. And what might be difficult to do legislatively needs to be done (when possible) via executive order. Don't be hemmed in by th opposition, they're certainly not trying to help you succeed...

After all, until Obama, the presidents since I got the right to vote has also included Reagan, Bush I and Bush II.

I was *really* hoping for something much, much, MUCH better than another Clinton.

9. Clinton made a lot more mistakes in his first year than Obama

and got off to a very rocky start with his appointments, etc. And Clinton came in when the Republicans were ascendant at the national level.
Plus no Democrat since FDR had actually been elected to a second term.
So I can see why we might have had doubts.

But I don't see many parallels between the two presidents. Except neither appears to have had a formidable opponent.
