Harris pulls out of governor's race

Citing a strong line-up of republican candidates for governor in 2010 and duties to his family and constituents, John Harris has pulled out of the race.

Harris said he hasn't decided whether he will run for re-election to his House of Representatives seat.

The Republican from Valdez filed a letter with the Alaska Public Offices Commission on Friday afternoon withdrawing his letter of intent to run for governor in the November election.

Harris, who represents District 12 in the state House, said his family and his constituents take priority over a gubernatorial bid.

He cited a strong line-up of three Republicans highly engaged in the contest, but wouldn't endorse another candidate.
