As Obama said in his appearance, the GOP offers political assertions that have no substantial policy basis. We need things that can actually be implemented and get results. They score points in the chatterbox news cycle but when the policy is examined for more than fifteen seconds it has no chance of being feasible. It's great for making people angry at Democrats and scoring votes but not so great when it comes to governing.

they were trounced, virtually the entire House R's came out of this looking like a bunch of 1st graders. There was posturing aplenty by the R's, but absolutely nothing of substance. He did one of those things we see so rarely we are astounded when it happens...he actually spoke of viable policies and how he made decisions , he came off as intelligent and had valid answers for their questions, questions that we have heard time and again without any answers of their own.

Far more people watched this in one form or another, either live, replay or clips, and what they saw was a GOP that is adrift, looking for something to stick politically and can't find that one piece that will stick. On the other hand, even those who do not agree w/PO saw a leader, someone who is in command of his decision making process, someone who is willing to get into the dirt and wrestle with problems, find solutions and enact them. He beat them at their own game. He didn't have to do much homework, didn't have to have the questions presented to him beforehand, he knew what they would be, the R's haven't had anything knew in a decade, they have painted themselves into a corner and don't know how to get out. The president trounced them.

I've been going outside of the US media to read the reactions to what happened...the world took note, and the president came out of this with wildly higher respect from allies and enemies alike. It seems that the only people who didn't learn anything from this are the rabid neo-cons...as soon as they saw what happened, they grabbed their buckets of paint and proceeded to make that corner they're in, just a little bit smaller.

I wish I were a fly on the wall during the R "leadership" meetings after this...to hear "Oh shit" repeated over and over again would be sweet music to my ears...:D
