From Dec., Sen. Coburn on health care: "First of all, we're trying to kill the bill..."
Sen. Coburn Agrees That Dems Could Deny Republicans Health Care

CALLER: Why isn't this entire thing being stopped just because it looks like right now the Democrats would say, "Okay we'll take out this, this, this, and this," and it's only to put their framework in place for their totalitarian utopian state, which means they are going to control everything and only give it to those who vote Democratically or force people who aren't voting Democratically to become Democrats. I mean, it's a whole debacle and it's nothing about health care. Why aren't we just totally killing this bill, end of story?

COBURN: Well, I think that's a good question. First of all, we're trying to kill the bill...

Damn, he was still pushing the debunk claim that Republicans were going to be denied care.

1. The bill stinks
If we're talking about the Senate bill.
And stop trying to push the nonsense that Republicans were the only ones trying to kill. It was pretty much universally loathed.
The events of the past couple weeks have bought the Democrats some time...if they try to push the Senate bill through without some ironclad guarantees of changes to satisfy critics of the bill from the left flank then they will be facing the same situation again.

3. We should do nothing .. and lose the House and Senate in the process.
Same as 1993.

We passed nothing .. and got crushed for not passing what we said was SOOOO important.

The defintion of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

We need to get the FOUNDATION in place. Might not be perfect ... but we need something to build on.

Edited on Sat Jan-30-10 06:08 PM by ibegurpard
then, yes, nothing is the best course of action.
edit: and the "foundation" you speak of is ENSURING that for-profit companies with an interest in denying healthcare are now codified as the gatekeepers of our healthcare.
That's not a foundation for reform...that's building an iron fence around the status-quo.

5. "And stop trying to push the nonsense that Republicans were the only ones trying to kill." No,
there are a lot of other idiots who agree with Coburn.

2. The only thing I can think of that's good to say about Coburn is:
Thank God he's not my Doctor.
He is, sadly, my Senator. (I do not have representation in Washington. None. Nada. Zip.)
