Why Bruce Bartlett is Not a Republican

Bruce Bartlett notes a poll showing that 57% of Republicans believe or aren't sure if Obama wants the terrorists to win, 76% who believe or aren't sure if ACORN stole the election, and 68% believe or aren't sure if Obama should be impeached:

Why I Am Not a Republican, by Bruce Bartlett: I can only conclude from this new poll of 2003 self-identified Republicans nationwide that between 20% and 50% of the party is either insane or mind-numbingly stupid.

No comment -- this speaks for itself. But it is clear that this group is never going to participate in or even support a bi-partisan effort to solve our problems. A few of the moderates might listen politely, but the base has spoken and the Party of No is not going away.

4. REALLY?
1/3 of republicans think contraceptives should be outlawed? Wow. I wonder if this is a particularly effed up sample. Wow. Wouldn't that mean like 12% or so of the population thinks contraceptives should be outlawed?

8. It's possible they didn't understand the question
or didn't even know what contraceptives were. They are morons, after all.
I'm quite surprised the number wasn't higher.

11. I agree, when you're dealing with this mentality level...
it's quite likely some of them don't understand exactly what the word "contraception" actually means.

7. wow. that's scary...
it seems like a pretty valid poll though. I knew Republicans were fucked up to a large degree, but i guess it's worse than i thought.

10. There will be pullback from the T party when the Aryan Nation is shown to be involved
Just wait and see... they have so many little splinter groups in that movement.. and some of them are pretty ugly..not something you would want to be associated with

12. In my observation, the whole movement is patchwork of fringe groups...
A lot of them overlap; but still have distinct separate agendas:

1. The Ron Paul clowns from the '08 primary (I think they make up the biggest portion)...

2. Well-funded astroturf corporate shills playing the role of pissed-off, blue-collar populists, deficit hawks and civil libertarians (Joe the plumber and the like)...The GOP and corporate CEOs are trying to prop up and then ride this wave into office...

3. The Norquist-style, anti-tax, anti- 'Big Gummitt' crowd

4. That last holdout 20 percent of Bush lovers, who will do anything to protect their dear leader's legacy (i.e., make Obama look bad)

5. Orly and the birther crowd

6. Some branches off Sarah Palin's fanbase

7. The "I'm not racist or nuthin', but there is no way I can EVER accept one of 'them' running the nation" -crowd

Of course, the common universal theme between all these varied groups is #7

19. I think they're populist alright Just right-wing ones
Lunatic, populist and right wing like Father Coughlin in the 30's.
And they were intensely anti-semitic, blaming all their problems on (Jewish) bankers who controlled Wall Street. Sound familiar?
