Former Sen. Dan Coats (R-IN), possible Bayh opponent, tied to Hugo Chavez
Former U.S. Sen. Dan Coats, who is likely to challenge Sen. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.) this fall, lobbied for a Texas-based oil and gas company that partnered with Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez, according to Senate lobbying disclosure forms.

The Indiana Republican, a Senator from 1989 to 1999, is listed on electronic lobbying disclosure forms for Harvest Natural Resources, which operates in Venezuela, Russia and Pakistan.

In 2007, when Coats' firm was still lobbying, company officials inked a deal with the Chavez government that gave a controlling stake in its local operations to Venezuela's state oil company. Harvest retained about a third of the revenues generated in the country, according to a Reuters report from the time.

4. and?
the Politico article doesn't get around to saying what is remarkable about this. There are laws against dealing with some governments like Iran for example. Any such laws regarding Venezuela?

Strange stinky bedfellows - Coats and Hugo. I got a feeling this won't play well with the folks in Indiana.
