Elon Poll: 51 percent would like to see Burr replaced
A new survey from the Elon University Poll shows that 51 percent of state residents believe it's time to send someone other than Republican U.S. Sen. Richard Burr to Washington.

The poll asked 508 state residents whether Burr deserved re-election and 24 percent said Burr deserves re-election while 51 percent said someone else deserves a chance.

It's important to note that the poll is of all state residents and not just recent voters, who may be more likely to vote in the next election. The results may also reflect a general wave of anti-incumbent sentiment because in a separate question, 40 percent approved of Burr's job performance, compared to the 35 percent who disapproved.

The poll found that Burr by far has the most name recognition among the candidates running for U.S. Senate. Only 29 percent said they had no opinion of him.
