In an interview with Sean Hannity on his ABC News radio show, Sarah Palin chastised President Obama for telling Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), during the health care summit, “the campaign is over.”

“Todd and I both saw that,” said Palin, “and we both said, you know, how arrogant for our president to say that.” She called McCain “an American war hero who has sacrificed so much,” arguing that for him “to be dissed like that on national television did not speak well for our president’s character.”

It was about as soft an interview as these exchanges can be. “I like it when you say common-sense conservatism,” said Hannity. “That, to me, means Reagan conservatism.”

Got to hand it to him; he snagged a rich one that could buy him a seat in congress. I can understand that Palin would admire him. He is the only one who believes that she is qualified to be Vice President of the United States. Well, I am exaggerating. He really doesn't believe that. He was only using the dumb bitch as a last ditch attempt to be elected and that backfired when she proved to be an utterly ignorant hillbilly.

As far as I am concerned, this falls flat for two reasons:

1) His heroism is not reason to justify everything he does 35 years later.
2) If it did, then Palin and the Republican party owe John Kerry, a war hero, who actually saved people and made good strategic decisions, at least as much respect. So, far, Nixon finding he was a clean cut war hero called on his team "to destroy him" ( This a few years after returning from the war and still hurting from it.) Then, they spent billions in 2004 lying about his serviee record. After that, the Republicans have no right to say anything about respecting heros.
3) Obama did not show a lack of respect. If he did, consider the hundreds of times McCain, in the Seante and out, told Kerry that "elections have consequences". That was, in essence what Obama said. So, if Obama was disrespecting a war hero, McCain set a precedent for it.
