Huge news: "Texas SBOE Wingnuts Lose Primary Battles." Great news for School Textbooks.
Gradually over the last 15 years the far right has been taking over the Texas State Board of Education and gradually rewriting curriculum like science, social studies, etc., to reflect the far right agenda. This has a huge impact as the books that are written for Texas end up influencing huge numbers of books for states all across the country. But the wingnut tide seems to be receding (if not in the governors office, at least in the state board of education).

I understand they traditionally aren't into education as the rest of the world but come on...it's embarrassing for America. We aren't living in superstitious times anymore.

6. It isn't just the South. I lived in Indiana and talked with quite a few people who thought
the devil planted dinosaur bones in the ground.

3. Good so far; but wingnuts are running against Dem members in November.
But it is good so far.

Of course, the lame-duck nutcases will still be in office for nearly a year; and they have said that they do intend to continue to influence the history standards this year -- that is, to destroy them.

5. proud to rec #5.
Ours is NOT a christian center-right nation. Our four fathers were deist, or at least three of them, not christian. The constitution does not mention christian principles, it denotes Humanistic ones. In which Article is an eye for an eye mentioned, anyway?

7. Sweet! I voted in the GOP primary this year so I could vote against McLeroy.
I hadn't heard how the other districts had fared. I don't even know if there will be a Democrat on the ticket for my district, but the guy who beat McLeroy seems at least rational.
