I totally agree with Big Ed - Where are the Dems?
Edited on Mon Mar-08-10 07:00 PM by jillan
Why aren't Durbin - Kerry - Dodd - Schumer - Hoyer - etc etc etc on EVERY DAY fighting for healthcare reform?
Why is it that Dem talking heads are out there carrying the message, and not the Dems in power?
Again - the elected rightwingwackos controlled the message on the Sunday shows.

We need those powerful voices out there to frame the debate. It shouldn't be left up to Obama - he needs support - strong, vocal support.

Please DEMS come out of hiding and shout it from the rooftops why we need HCR! Get out there and go toe to toe with the Orrin Hatch's of the world.

3. Well then maybe they should find a different line of work.
This is not about politics. People need healthcare, and if they are more worried about themselves then the people that elected them...they need to go home.

5. this is NOT healthCARE. Repeating that term over and over does not make it so
This is an insurance industry BAIL OUT.

And those other Dems are not stupid enough to put their necks on the line for some bill cooked up in a backroom by a group of politicians eager to sign away the future of other people's grandkids for some ego-driven *legacy*.

6. Maybe you should stop repeating nonsense
Insurance pays for access to health care. Insurers have been denying access and will be banned from doing so when reform is passed. Their profits will be limited and the government will have greater control over rate increases. As for health care, that is provided by doctors.

The Democratic Senators mentioned in the OP wholeheartedly support this bill.

21. Insurance policies with low actuarial values wont pay for care when the poor can't afford it
"Insurance pays for access to health care"

Sure, if you are fortunate enough to afford a comprehensive, low deductible, low copay plan

Considering they are the majority party. Very frustrating seeing them evil, ugly GOP pols out in every media outlet.

24. I call bull on that.
Yes, on paper they might not be allowed to deny coverage, but there are loopholes big enough to drive a truck through, and they will still be allowed to charge so much that people can't afford it. And to get federal subsidizes to help pay for it you would have to accept a humiliating violation of your privacy in the guise of a means test and then you would have the IRS breathing down your neck. And that so-called greater control over rate increases is a sham. The board that oversees that will be in the hip pocket of the insurance industry.

This bill is a fraud and a big mess and any objective observer knows it.

9. I'm am really trying to be diplomatic....
but your post is just ridiculous. How is this bill signing away the future of other people's grandchildren by getting rid of pre existing conditions, and implementing regulations so that insurance companies can not raise our premiums whenever they feel like it? I have family members without insurance that this bill will help. I want to scream there are so many on here that feel just because the insurance industry is not done away with by this bill therefore the entire bill is a failure, that is just not true! Healthcare is a big chunk of our economy we were never going to get everything all at once. The status quo is not sustainable it just isn't.

12. And - I have a 20 year old daughter with thyroid problems - in 2 yrs she's going to get kicked off
my insurance... I want this passed, even in it's weakened form, for her.. and all the other children that will be denied insurance because of pre-existing conditions.

There are so many good things to this bill - even tho it's not all that we wanted.

7. That is the point I was trying to make months ago
It shouldn't be up to just Obama to get Health Care reform done. Other Dems should be front and center as well, standing with the Prez. That would be much more effective IMO.

8. We're waiting on a bill to be scored by the CBO. Seriously....
.... that's how it works. As a bill is finalized and sent to the CBO for scoring, usually everyone gets pretty quiet.

This is normal. The chamber that has the ball is NOT the chamber that's making the most noise at any time. It's the other way around.

I dont see how Ed has the job he has without knowing this stuff.

15. This is what happens when you compromise away the good
to make some theatrical attempt at bipartisanship which fails to deliver you even one vote. Now we have a GOP bill, basically, and to expect people who are elected Democrats, whose constituencies want Single Payer, or Medicare for all, to go out and promote that bill is just silly. Having watched the Obama approach over the last year, I had expected to see Snowe and the rest of his beloved Republicans promoting the bill they crafted. Where is the all important Montana Max? He was the one in charge of this for months.
Where are all the anti public option Senators to promote what they claim to support?

16. I get the feeling they are all ashamed of it.
Yes, they give it lip-service, and point to the scattered good things that remained after the Senate got through with it.

But it is a sham of a bill and no one in particular wants to run on it.

Damned if it passes. damned even more if it fails

Heckuva change, isn't it?

26. You know what it reminds me of?
When Kerry was running for President and was being attacked by the Swiftboatliars. I kept yelling at the tv - wondering WHERE ARE THE DEMS? They were nowhere to be found, the pukes controlled the message - and look what happened.

Here I am - screaming at my TV again WHERE ARE THE DEMS?

29. I have been wondering this for awhile now. Last summer when all the
republican propoganda was reaching a fever pitch there were hardly any dems out there countering the BS. Its gotten better nowadays but they need to be hammering on republican lies all the time. The healthcare summit was great for that but they have to contnue it.
