If it does happen, and Republicans campaign on repeal, Democrats should say “bring ‘em on”. Those negative poll numbers partly reflect misinterpretation — a significant number of people disapprove of reform because they think it doesn’t go far enough — and partly reflect misinformation — the more people know about reform, the more they like it.

And I’m impressed by the passion of this guy Obama who’s campaigning for reform. Where was he last year?

I remembered NJMaverick's diatribes against Paul Krugman very vividly because his attacks went on for months on end and got pretty disturbing. He showed up in virtually any thread quoting Krugman or referencing Krugman, always with the same agenda. Several of the posts were deleted. I simply picked the first few that came up in my search and these are very mild from what I remember.

You have to admit, the quotes provide a fairly amusing juxtaposition and betray a certain level of, I don't know, shall we say... intellectual dishonesty? :shrug:

It may not be everything they'd like, but it's largely to their benefit. That doesn't mean they wouldn't take more if they could get it. If the bill doesn't pass, then they've still got the status quo, which has worked pretty well for them. If the bill passes, then they've got the status quo with a new paint job, and essentially a captive clientle.

The insurance companies coming out in favor of this bill would be akin to Goldman Sachs or AIG coming out in favor of the bailout, which is precisely why they have no intention of coming out in favor of it. It would be bad PR for an already unpopular industry if they were to suddenly start cheerleading it.

the difference between the insurance companies having the "status quo" and the "status quo with a new paint job" is the 31 million new people who will be helped and won't be able to get kicked off insurance plans. That's a HUGE reason to be for it.
