Jeff Landry (R), who filed for Louisiana's open 3rd district seat back in December, made his "official" campaign announcement on Tuesday in a statement released on his new campaign Web page.
"Our country is in peril because our government is out of control, caused by a president and a Congress where free spending and liberal values reign, where the size of our government is growing as fast as our coast is eroding," Landry said in his statement. "We need people to run for office who truly want to serve the public and not rely on the taxpayers as their source of income. I am Jeff Landry that's why I am running for Congress."
Landry, a lawyer who narrowly lost a state Senate race in 2007, reported over $115,000 in cash on hand for his campaign as of Dec. 31. He is one of four Republicans who are already in the race including state Rep. Nickie Monica and a pair of local businessmen.
But GOP insiders say they are holding out for a bigger fish, and hint that a big name will join the race in early April.
