Cheeks Kilpatrick says she is not target of probe

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick said today that neither she nor a member of her Detroit office staff is a target of a grand jury investigation, even though they have received subpoenas to testify.

“Through her counsel, the congresswoman has been assured by the Department of Justice that neither she nor Andrea Bragg is a target of the grand jury,” the congresswoman’s office said in a release this afternoon. It said she and Bragg “intend to cooperate fully and answer truthfully all appropriate questions.”

“Beyond that, as this is a grand jury matter, this office will have no further comment,” the statement said.

Kilpatrick, a Detroit Democrat and the mother of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, let House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office know about the summons on Wednesday, as required by House rules.
