Regarding the "student loan" bombshell contained in the HCR bill, why are the Conservatives

all up in arms? They're saying that the govt. will "take money right out of our bank accounts"., etc.,

OH!

And what's with this National ID card rumor? Are they all just hearing things, or am I not up to date on this stuff. I check in with DU several times a day...

Any info would be appreciated. I would like to respond to these items with some Republicans.

1. Repugs are actually calling student loan reform the "government takeover of student loans".
Amazing.

2. Well, it is not like the private lending of the student loans has not been a total disaster.
Right?

I owed tons of money on my student loans. The rates on them were horrific. I was lucky my parents pitched in and helped me.

7. That's not a disaster
The banks made plenty of money, right? To conservatives this proves that it works just fine.

To them, there's no right to a job, no right to social mobility--although you'd better NEVER argue against the myth of great social mobility in America--and certainly no right to an education. If you were some kind of profligate wanting to invest in your future, it's your own fault.

I forgive you, though; it's hard for a decent person to contort the mind to be able to see things from this vantage...

My Great-Grandmother had it right: "beauty's only skin deep, but meanness is to the bone".

3. The government should be educating the best and brightest at no charge
to them, like the Swedes and many other European nations do. There would be no need for student loans then. But instead we have to make the rich richer with tax cuts and make the working class pay for the military/industrial complex getting nothing back for themselves like education and health care. We already have a national ID card. It's called a social security number.

6. Conservatives always wax apoplectic
When their pet policies are overturned ....

The Student Loan 'business' was, in days past, a LOW INTEREST GOVERNMENT CONTROLLED LOAN facility .... It was a far better system than this current, private loan travesty who's only goal is profit ...

Funny thing is: Their wild eyed pronouncements and public displays are designed to tilt a segment of the populace who actually buy into their nonsense ....

Whether true or not: They get a 'bump' ... That is how it works for them, and the Democrats are out played in the media driven public 'Marketplace of Ideas', because they refuse to publicly engage in any well founded defense of their own ideas and policies ....

They fold like cheap chairs .... Hence our claims of spinelessness and weakness ....

The slow creep towards the GOP in the polls is driven by inactivity of the Dems in the public sphere ....

8. It's not what you accomplish with the gops but how
many ways you can frame a lie.

I think the Coffee Party has something..

"MISSION: The Coffee Party Movement gives voice to Americans who want to see cooperation in government. We recognize that the federal government is not the enemy of the people, but the expression of our collective will, and that we must participate in the democratic process in order to address the challenges that we face as Americans. As voters and grassroots volunteers, we will support leaders who work toward positive solutions, and hold accountable those who obstruct them."
