Here we are on the verge of history.
This is really a big deal. We are witnessing something huge. Something that will be in textbooks (except in Texas) forever.
And in our own little way - we were part of it.

I will be really disappointed if the bill passes without a public option, and mandates without a PO makes my blood curl BUT -
I guess I stand with Bernie Sanders....there is so much good in this bill it would be terrible if it didn't pass.

Who else is excited??? Check in if you are :fistbump:

11. Texas textbooks will declare it the day of Hell or something.
I am nervous we might not have the votes, relieved the whole thing is almost at an end, and slightly excited to see if we can pull this off and make the Rethugs shut up. And most of all, happy that we will have an actual HCR bill. I remember the defeat in the early 90's very well.

than in giving the finger to the Insurance companies.

Your priorities are screwed, and calling out names won't bring anyone back
from the dead.

Not Mr. Krugman.
Not Rep. Weiner.
Not Wendell Potter.
Not Barbara Lee.
Not Mr. Reich.

Believe what you spew. None of those that can be trusted on this are saying that more people die
with this bill passing. You know why? cause it ain't fucking true.

But keep lying to yourself....
if it makes you feel smart.

48. You're not really that concerned. Check yourself.
If you were properly concerned about actual people instead of narrowly concerned about political image, you would be fighting like hell to see people receive actual care instead of mere insurance. You would focus not only on the uninsured, but the current insured who cannot afford the co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pockets. (You, rather mysteriously, don't often mention them).

You would be fighting for health care reform instead of health insurance reform.

So this "You're ok with people dying" dance you've got going on is as transparently hollow and hypocritical as the talking points you spend all day pasting around.

People may get insurance, if they can pay for it, subsidies or no.

But tens of millions who currently cannot afford care will still not be able to afford care.

And you - and the President - don't much seem to give a good god damn about them.

Maybe you should stop accusing everyone else of practically partying over the death of the uninsured as you, also, throw real lives overboard in propagandist service to the president.

All the big corporatist insurance corporate corpatocracies are spending millions to kill the bill. In short, they're on the same side as you are.

I have significant ongoing expenses, and so far I can also afford my shitty, nearly worthless catastrophic insurance as well. However, if I ever have a financial setback that would make it impossible for me to pay both, I could drop the shitty insurance. After "reform," the IRS goes after me if I do that. Fuck that straight to hell.

70. I hope you're right, but after the bankster bailout, expanded wars, no FISA prosecutions, NAFTA, etc
I don't believe so - it's a huge give-away to big insurance, unless we get a Medicare expansion or PO in there somehow....

72. I'm wondering when our healthcare system will qualify us for refugee status elsewhere in the world.

The way it keeps getting worse with no end in sight because our government is a wholly owned subsidiary of a bunch of sociopathic leeches (when they aren't selfsame sociopathic leeches themselves), it can't be long now... right? :(

75. I am not holding my breath
I was excited when I voted for Obama and then again when I thought we were getting a health bill.
But now, I am not holding my breath:)

76. Yes, we, the democrats, are about to have our political asses handed to us in the November election
thanks to our corporate democratic leaders.

I'm all aflutter. :eyes:

78. No, I just happen to live in the real world.
Wait for it ... it's going to be horrific for some of you ... but no worries, blame the favorite scapegoat of "new democrats" = the LIBERALS. :-)

Wait for the fall-out? It's going to get real ugly.

83. I have mixed feelings about the bill
Edited on Tue Mar-16-10 02:57 PM by PatSeg
I wish I could be excited, but I'm still apprehensive about the bill.

Edit to add that this was just posted under Breaking News, that the public option was included in the House reconciliation bill:

Maybe I can get excited, but I'm still skeptical.

87. I want the bill to pass
My reasons:

1. It will help a lot of people.
2. It will piss off the Republicans, break the logjam, and set the stage for something better.
3. If the insurance companies are lobbying against it, there must be something good about it.

Yes, I would prefer "Medicare for All", but until that's politically possible, I can live with any version of the HCR bill. Hell, I already do. I live in Massachusetts.

90. Its easy to be glib when you aren't in a position to not be able to afford treatment.
With or without health care reform.

97. Check, big time.
Foot in door. Nose in tent. Rest friction overcome. Sled dogs cracked the ice on the runners. This is the beginning of a truly first class health care system for the good old USA.

100. Without a PO, the insurance corporations benefit the most
so I can't get excited. Also my 18-24 year kids will be
forced to buy insurance instead of pay as needed.
