In general, whoever's got the nation's tiller is at greatest danger of steering it into the rocks, so to speak. I suspect a lot of DUers that spend a lot of time "attacking" Dems feel that way.

Oh, I know you're using a silly dichotomy here, but I'll play the propaganda game.

At this point in time, the Democrats have all the power. Solid majorities, the presidency, and after the 2008 election, all the momentum.

It is our party that brings legislation forward, it is our party that passes it, it is our President who is supposed to be leading the charge for reform.

Republicans may bitch and moan and obstruct - it's why I don't vote for them - but the Democratic Party is now the one holding all the legislative and executive cards. They're the ones folding, folding, folding. They're the ones trying to bind American health care to private, for-profit corporations for a generation.

I stand with Candidate Obama against mandates and for a strong public option. I guess Candidate Obama was also fighting against the Democratic party during his campaign. It happens. I feel like I'm in good company in supporting Candidate Obama's policies.

That American health-care must be forever bound to for-profit vehicles is the ultimate Right-Wing Propaganda.

I suppose my question is, why are you such an ardent champion of it? It will be the greatest conservative victory for a generation. They vanquished the idea that this country should join the rest of the western world in making health care a civil right.

As for what is "Solid"......That's up to debate, and based on the definition below,
far as I can see, those I highlighted don't really correspond with what the Dems
have in my humble opinion.

60/40 is a solid majority by any standard definition. If you have to use semantics to attempt the argument, you've already lost.

Yes, now it's 59/41, but that is still the best majority enjoyed in forty years. It's strange how, when Brown won, the media was castigated for behaving as if it was catastrophic for the party when in reality we still have this great majority. And yet, now that it's convenient, suddenly the majority is really no big deal. Not as important as you'd think. Certainly not as powerful as advertised.

That's the problem with propaganda. It usually has to shift so often and egregiously that its own internal logic falls apart at the slightest touch.

How about fighting for the people - screw whatever letter someone puts by their name. If a Democrat eats children, she should be condemned. If a republican ever voted to go the right thing (could happen even though it hasn't yet) she should be supported.

I support the Democratic principles that I see as historic and progressive. Just because someone comes to the party doesn't mean they didn't crash. I don't support people without principles. Candidates espouse principles and then often back off when elected. Then I quit supporting them.

I know that life would be simpler your way, but it wouldn't be better.

At one time the Democratic Party supported slavery, at another time it supported Civil Rights.

The problem today is in the blurring of the parties on too many critical issues, so I voted both, although my preference would have been fighting for the general welfare of the nation.

"general" being the whole as opposed to a particular.

"welfare" the state of being or doing well; the condition of health, prosperity and happiness.

From my perspective the current leadership has not been fighting for the whole or health so much as fighting for a particular and private profit for a redundant industry.
