5. so put your self in his place
He probably in his late 50's. A major piece of legislation comes down the pike every 20 to 25 years. Do you want your legacy to be aligned against the legislation and your party. He got a little too cute on this one and he is left with very few options, and only one makes him not look like a historical prick.

And cut your friggen hair Bart. I have the same problem, thick mop that sits on the top, it is real easy, cut it shorter.

20. He wants his place in history.
this is why the Nelson amendment is not sufficient. He wants the Stupak amendment. It would be enough for him to delete a lower case a and insert a capital A as long as it became the Stupak amendment or the Stupak/Nelson amendment. This is not about abortion to him it is about his name on the bill so he can go back to the church and say it was him.

6. "Stupak just told me the convo w/Pelosi was about an abortion-related "proposal that's out there,.."
Stupak just told me the convo with Pelosi was about an abortion-related "proposal that's out there,"

Stupak told me Dem leaders "don't have the votes, or they wouldn't be talking to me." He holds a presser on Sat at 11am and
"hopes" he'll have an agreement to announce. Leaving the Capitol, he told me "there's a proposal out there but nothing yet and we want to see it in writing and massage it," which is what he told the Speaker during the 10 min pow wow

Rep. Becerra confirms that there are "animated discussions" going on over the abortion language with both sides.

12. I don't believe him that Pelosi doesn't have the votes
I think she already has the votes, but she doesn't want to win this by 2 votes: she wants to get a larger majority than she got with the initial bill because it will make the bill's passage look stronger.

17. She seems to have about 36 firm nos. We can only have 37 nos.
She wants a buffer just in case.

10. Be happy
If Stupak can bring even a few wavering pro-life Dems along, then passage is almost certain. I suspect that Stupak has been getting pressured heavily by the Catholic left (basically everyone except EWTN and some of the bishops). The Catholic health association, the religious orders, America Magazine, Catholics United, etc give him sufficient reason to back down, but he needs a way to save face. Pelosi and the White House have probably given him a commitment on something related to abortion reduction or adoption promotion.

I'm not privy to anything. This is just my guess based on the situation.

21. Stupid is the darling of the Catholic Pimp Bishops.
The majority of Catholic Bishops have very little to do with the ordinary parishioners. They associate with the moneyed power classes. It is the wealthy that are invited to dine at the bishops' palaces, not the working class moms and dads. They only acknowledge their existence when they make their annual appeal for money to fund their pet projects. All organized religions, especially in Western Civilization, are nothing more than parasites that have preyed on the working class for centuries. Of course they contribute a certain amount of benefit, but in reality what they have accomplished could have been accomplished just as economically, if not more so, and without their restrictions and conditions.

22. Canceled, according to various posts on Twitter
Followed by speculation that Pelosi doesn't need his vote(s).

But Twitter tweets have been known to be slightly in error on rare occasions.
