(2) It puts at least two more "Undecided" Dems into play:

13. This is one more example of a massive GOP cluster fuck.

They made such a big deal of this process, calling it "Deem and Scheme," and a sham and unconstitutional (which is bullshit, but it resonated with the wingnuts). Once again, they shot their wad prematurely. Now that the Dems have decided to bypass "Deem and Scheme" for an up or down vote on both bills, separately, the GOP's demonization of the process is moot.

If they'd kept their yaps shut and let us go ahead with it, they could have used it to send the wingnuts and teabaggers into a frenzy and, possibly, impacted poll numbers on HCR after-the-fact. Now, they've got nothing.

23. But a straight vote would mean it's law right? Deem and pass meant it wouldn't be law until

the senate fixed it. That gives republicans too much power again. If it's law, I think republicans would even back off and feel pressure and let dems fix it.

I agree with you that this takes away some of the Republicans' power in the Senate. The new vote for them is just the reconciliation package. I would bet that those 5o plus Senators will be making the case that they must vote "no" on every amendment - and they know the Republicans will try to play games with this making them vote against popular things. But, after 20 (?) hours of debate and amendments - it is done and they vote on a pkg that gets rid of all those special deals and makes the plan better.

But yes, healthcare will be law tomorrow after the vote. Supposedly, the WH will have the big celebration public signing on the second bill.
