I feel terribly that John Lewis and his colleagues had to endure facing the kind of people who used to constitute lynch mobs, and hear the filth pour from their mouths, but it's good in its own way.

We all knew what the anti-Obama, tea party, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, Michelle Bachmann, viciousness was all about before today. But (with the exception of Limbaugh) they were careful to pretend it wasn't.

But now it's out. All the ugliness we face, all the threats to the President, all the filth from the rightist media is about one thing: race. Yeah, they also are stingy egocentric misanthropes who wouldn't pay an extra dollar in taxes to save the entire United States of America.

But race is at the foundation.

Tomorrow will be the worst day they have experienced since Obama's election. Their misery will be America's triumph. Happy Sunday, America (not the Kluxers).

the media has given them far too much oxygen as it is. They ignore the far Left-the Anarchists at WTO meetings-yet they treat the Teabaggers as if they are somehow "mainstream". These people aren't only nutty, they're downright unstable and dangerous. If you spit at a cop you'll get arrested, since no one knows if you're carrying HIV or not. 5. For the first time in my life I am scared to death

of these extremists. I try to keep an open mind and in an effort to do so read a wide variety of blogs, news, and videos. This weekend I no longer see any middle ground; they are f***ing nuts. Everything from their outrageous actions to their threatening signs and online posts has my anxiety growing. I hope these extremists are merely windbags but with the likes of Beck and Limbaugh egging them on I feel like I am in a theater and they have handed the loonies a match.

I'm not trying to be snarky in this. This is my honest opinion. There is nothing to admire about them. Nothing. Just because they're successful at getting attention because every word is hyperbole turned up to 11 and because they're being used and manipulated isn't worthy of admiration. Bush was successful at breaking every toy he touched. What's to emulate there?

38. I'm less afraid now because they have crossed the media "no no" line.

The media has built up this group as the representation of "real Americans" despite evidence to the contrary. They have ignored the many signs carried by this crowd that are clearly racist and contain threats of violence because they apparently need everything spelled out for them before they catch on.

I think the fact that these people are starting to drop the facade that this is about health care at all is going to be a wake up call for those in the media who use the "N" word as the line that can't be crossed. Although I think some in the media will say "it was just a few people" and attempt to make excuses, I think many more will stop covering these people as if they really are like the original Tea Party patriots and start exposing them for who they are.

They can no longer operate with the full support of the media and without any criticism as to their motives. Now that their colors are showing, perhaps the even more massive damaged they could have done will now be avoided. The bill will pass and the country won't be decimated. The real "real Americans" will begin to discount them for what they are. They can no longer operated unchallenged under the guise of being "real Americans" looking out for the good of the people. They are bigots and they've literally shown signs saying so for months.

I'm not saying this will prevent future violence, but I do think they have damaged their cause and it will be harder to get to the point I was afraid we were headed.

16. A Congressional staffer told me that many callers were no longer hiding their racism

or racial insults in their calls to congressional offices. In the first few months after President Obama was elected staffers could sense the veiled racial thoughts but this sense of repression of hate has evaporated. The venom and bile flow freely today. She said this is a widespread experience among staffers manning the phones.
