7. The guy I bought my house from is a Republican
so I get fliers from the RNC all of the time. This is pretty much what their polls look like.

Please mark your selection for the question below:
Are you one of the vast majority of truly patriotic freedom loving Americans against a government takeover of health care that that commie, socialist, illegal alien terrorist is trying to shove down our Christian throats?
Yes!____ :patriot:

9. A way to have some extra fun with them...
Most of those fliers tend to be begging letters. If they are postage-paid, you ought to send them back with Monopoly money in them. Or, get a hold of some of those $1 million bills the fundies like to pass out with the bible quotes all over them.

10. I fill their envelopes with unidentifiable junk mail,
so it exceeds the permissible weight. It also forces them to go through it, in case there is money inside.

2. To quote somebody I would smoke on Jeopardy, "You betcha."
She wouldn't even get one right. Bring, it, stoopid Sarah. And bring Rush, Beck and Hannity and their combined three weeks of college. You're toast.

13. Exactly how I feel
Either I am getting overly sentimental in my old age, or this president I helped elect is more capable than I even dreamed possible of achieving big goals despite the chaos in our nation politically and the sour economic times.

I admit that as the vote came in during the 2008 election, I got all teared up at watching something happen that I never thought I'd be lucky enough to see. Hadn't felt anything like that since the civil rights era in fact. And just a bit ago, when I heard the vote count on HCR changing, I had the same damned reaction - cynical, gnarly old me felt the tears well up, and let 'em rip. This initial step toward real and effective heath care for all isn't everything I want it to be yet. But I understand that it is a process that takes some serious manuvering to get even to first base. And from there, you keep going to home base. But you have to get going in the right direction, and this is that step.

If this guy delivers any more historic moments, I am going to be a puddle of tears. I used to think, even as I voted for Obama, that the theme of "hope and change" was nice, but given our current environment in this country, not likely to result in as many definitive moments as I wanted to see. And now I find it coming all together for me, that this man is fully capable of getting the ball rolling in multiple directions. I am now getting comfortable with the new idea of hope, and am seeing the first steps of change in way that I haven't seen for decades.

Goodness. I am still in a bit of awe, and that isn't something that comes naturally to me at all.

17. I was wearing that same shirt! I forgot about pie !:)
Edited on Sun Mar-21-10 06:49 PM by DeschutesRiver
Mine was the best I could muster, being out here in a remote place, which was whipping together a pie out of some summer peaches and blueberries I'd put up in the freezer (but no whipped cream, darn) - that photo is bring back the memories:) I was in the kitchen, with some headphones on so that I wouldn't miss a word on tv while making it.

You are entirely right, esp if you add the pie factor, lol. The way I felt that election night will likely never be duplicated. I was over the moon about it. Man, wasn't that something to see such a moment in our lifetime?
