I mean, is it? Make your case.

3. It is a step forward
But it isn't the end. Health care is going to need tons of reforms over the coming century to keep costs down, improve access, improve quality, etc. But this bill is a step in the right direction.

4. The Republicans are this night handed a significant defeat.
It is a more expansive defeat than just a head count in the lower chamber.

They devoted more time and money to thwart this legislation from its inception, and have over many decades.

That the bill is not the bill you and I would prefer is less the point than the defeat in John Boehner's face tonight on the House floor. There are many narratives in that sullen expression, and none of them very optimistic for the Pukes.

Obama, Clyburn, and Pelosi won this night. It was a long battle. People were spit on in the streets of the capital.

I believe praise is owed.

5. Reform
IMO, this is good as far as it goes; a PARTIAL reform of the INSURANCE industry; It does not do enough to sever the dependence upon that industry, nor to contain costs. Even what is passed now will not be fully implemented for years. We still need a Medicare for All, or Single Payer, and it needs to begin sooner. Others have more criticisms but those are my major points of concern - deep concern. Obama did not ask for enough, nor did he even keep his campaign promises. Too many pre-ordained deals by him and others. He should have never allowed Baucus to take the lead in the Senate. Baucus' fumbling cost us much in time and quality of this bill. Also, no one bothered to make contact with the American people in the beginning and explain some of the inside terminology - how many Americans knew what "single payer" even meant, for instance. They let the crazy tea-party people completely dominate the public discourse for too long. I don't know who to blame for that, maybe all the Democrats. Their strategy and tactics were terrible. They wasted a great opportunity to do a complete overhaul of the health care system, and I don't know if it can ever be accomplished now.
