12. There was a thread about it yesterday

I was surprised at how many good things that were in it.

It cleaned up the deals that everyone is so upset about.

It also reduced and delayed the fines for people not buying health care ins, making it a slap on the wrist basically.

7. don't really understand the recommit vote

but seeing that most Dems are voting No, I'm guessing that what we want.

It's a procedural tactic that can be used to kill a bill (if it passes). That is why the Dems are voting no.

"If the motion to recommit is without instructions, adoption of the motion has the practical impact of killing the bill without a final vote on its passage. In other words, the House has said, "send it back to the committee from whence it came. We don't want it as it is." The motion is not debatable if it does not include instructions."

But I thought the vote was for a motion to recommit with instructions--that is, that the Repubs might send the bill back with a major amendment?

14. Yeah it was. It's the same thing, only

they send it back to committee with specific instructions that the committee must follow.

"If the motion to recommit is with instructions, the originating committee to which the bill is returned is bound to follow those instructions. Usually the instruction is for the committee to "report the bill back to the House forthwith with the following amendment." The text of the amendment is then given in full."

the Senate bill itself got.

So...there are a few Dems voting to allow the votes to occur, who won't vote yes on the bill?
