Republican nightmare: Alan Greenspan (Republican)- "latest job numbers reveal a resurgent economy"
"Alan Greenspan, the former chairman of the Federal Reserve and a self-described Republican libertarian, on Sunday reinforced increasingly confident assessments by the Obama administration that the nation’s latest job numbers reveal a resurgent economy"

1. We're cooked
Greenspan is always wrong. Better stock up on the canned goods. :)

5. Following Greenspan's anti-deficit advice was one of the best things Pres. Clinton did.
Edited on Sun Apr-04-10 03:34 PM by ClarkUSA
That doesn't mitigate the FUBAR that occurred when Greenspan went senile and no longer gave a shit about deficits as soon as BushCo came into office.

8. Okay
I'll concede that occasionally Greenspan can spot the perfectly obvious...if the obvious persists for a long enough time.

I'm pretty sure Clinton knew already that deficit reduction was a good idea.

28. Cheney, Greenspan's `Friend,' Key Player in Fed Chair Choice
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000103&sid=aHfdbFwz2vhs&refer=us

(this article is from 2005)

May 13 (Bloomberg) -- Only one guest attended both Alan Greenspan's 50th birthday party and his 75th: Vice President Dick Cheney.

Cheney is likely to be a central player in figuring out who will replace the Federal Reserve chairman when Greenspan's non- renewable term as a governor expires in January 2006. It will be one of the most important decisions President George W. Bush makes in office, and Cheney is alone in the administration in having long-standing personal and professional relationships with both Greenspan and the president.

With eight months to go, the search for a replacement has just begun. The White House even is interested in the possibility of Greenspan staying longer, something the chairman will resist.

``The vice president has both the intellect and influence to make him a logical and important player on economic policy --when he wants to weigh in,'' said R. Glenn Hubbard, chairman of Bush's Council of Economic Advisers from 2001 to 2003 and a potential candidate to replace Greenspan.

Cheney, 64, and Greenspan, 79, spend time together socially and have sat down to talk privately on the eve of economy- rattling events, such as the Persian Gulf War in 1991, when Cheney was secretary of defense under former President George H.W. Bush, and the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Former Cheney advisers say the vice president usually is involved in economic discussions of large consequence, such as tax or energy policy.

`Friends'

The two men met on 17 occasions from January 2001 through March 2004, according to a record of the Fed chairman's appointments made public under a Freedom of Information Act request by Kenneth Thomas, a finance lecturer at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

``They're friends,'' said Mary Matalin, a former top aide to Cheney who also has served as a political adviser to the Bush- Cheney election campaign. Greenspan has even found time in his Fed schedule to meet with Cheney's wife, Lynne, who is a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, a Washington research organization.

Cheney attends economic meetings at the White House, often including the weekly Wednesday lunch of Bush's economic team. He also sometimes requests special briefings.

16. Already stocked up.
I don't use many canned goods, but as part of the Mormon mentality drilled into me I have a good stock of the necessities.. Although I am not of "the faith" I grew up in Utah so know how these people plan ahead. If I get down to a case of towel paper I get nervous.

14. All they have to do is point out that a kiss from Greenspan isn't change
from Bush, yet once again, and that we all thought we were voting for change. It will peg all of us who voted for Obama as naive. I get that you don't get it, some will.

18. I think that'd be a stretch, considering Greenspan has admitted he made mistakes under BushCo.
Edited on Sun Apr-04-10 05:06 PM by ClarkUSA
I "don't get it" because it's obvious to even Faux News viewers that Obama is CHANGE personified, as any teabagging racist or Chamber of Commerce official will tell you. An RNC talking point relating Obama to Bush would be met with more amusement than belief for that reason.

Edited on Sun Apr-04-10 04:04 PM by ClarkUSA
But at least even Faux News can no longer deny the obvious: the economy is indeed improving. They can't keep up with the "but" for the next 7 years without embarrassing themselves, especially since economists are predicting that unemployment will reach normal levels of 5.5-6% by mid-decade. By then, President Obama's approval ratings will likely be near 60% and the Democrats will win back seats in the 2014 midterm elections on the back of an ever-improving economy.

Edited on Sun Apr-04-10 05:01 PM by ClarkUSA
I hope you and every Obama supporter here is RSVPing for the monthly OFA meetings now taking place.

<<regardless the naysayers are already looking ridiculous.. none of their disaster predictions have come true... not even close>>

Yeah, and with President Obama is calling their "repeal and replace" bluff and making fun of their empty fearmongering at every townhall, Republicans will end up looking like the chumps they are to everyone but their teabagger base by the time November rolls around, especially as the economy keeps improving.

The 24/7 Obama critics are doing what they have always done and we Obama supporters will keep putting them on ignore or refuting their shrill polemic with wit and the truth.

In the meantime, President Obama is having the best first year of any president in history. That must stick in some craws, eh? :fistbump:

10. On Faux News Sunday, they called it a "mixed report" or something like that, never
calling it "good" or "promising" or anything even nearly positive. Juan Williams was the only person saying it was a good start with positive signs.

They did the same thing in the 90s, giving credit to the Republican Congress for the economic boom. :eyes:

24. George Will was on "This Week" two minutes after Greenspan
saying that there was no significant job growth. And the recovery is too slow. Then Bushco whore Matt Dowd was next telling us how horrible everything is. So according to these right-wingers, Obama is supposed to fix Bush's eight years worth of garbage in one year. And I don't recall George Will ever complaining when job growth didn't meet population growth during Bush's term.
