Giffords Raises Half Million Dollars, Banks Nearly $2 Million

Until now, sophomore Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) has easily outraised her potential Republican rivals every quarter this election cycle.

Giffords raised more than $490,000 in the first quarter of 2010, her campaign announced Friday. That's an impressive sum, but former state Sen. Jonathan Paton (R). Paton's campaign announced Monday that he raised $501,000 in the quarter, after joining the race in late January.

Giffords, however, enjoys a big edge in cash on hand, reporting just under $2 million in the bank at the end of March. Paton did not disclose his cash on hand, but assuming he spent some money campaigning last quarter, it will be less than a half million.

Giffords campaign also boasts that she now has received contributions from nearly 4,000 individuals.

I thought that Frank and Kathy Lee Gifford had done a charity function, raised a half million dollars, and kept the other two million for themselves! LOL. Misunderstood headlines. Love 'em.
