Tell the Senate to Strengthen Financial Reform Legislation and Hold Big Banks Accountable.

Email your senators, if you have not done so already:

2. Where's The Part Where Usury is Illegal?
I don't seem to be able to find it in the bill... must be in there somewhere, probably next to the reinstatement of Glass-Steagall.

3. Bernie Sanders will be offering his credit card interest rate cap as amendment to the Senate bill
Edited on Sat Apr-17-10 08:51 AM by flpoljunkie
Financial Reform As the Senate prepared to take up financial services regulation in the coming week, Sen. Bernie Sanders went to the floor Thursday to say he will offer amendments to cap interest rates on credit cards at 15 percent and require the Federal Reserve to name financial institutions that received emergency assistance. Sanders also said stronger measures are needed to protect taxpayers from having to bail out financial institutions considered too big to fail. He said large financial companies should be subject to break-up orders, not just to protect taxpayers, but also to address "a concentration of ownership" issue. 4. That Would Be Great
And Obama will, doubtless, fight hard for it.

5. Credit Card bills must now inform us how long it will take to pay off balance with minimum payments
Edited on Sat Apr-17-10 10:37 AM by flpoljunkie
The numbers are staggering--truly mind boggling! Yet they pay such paltry rates on savings instruments. Senator Dick Durbin was right when he said that 'frankly, banks own the place.'

If people do not demand an end to this credit card usury from our own Democratic party, things will remain the same. Congress will respond if we speak out in large enough numbers. How you get people to speak out in great enough numbers is the question. They do need our votes to remain in their jobs.

6. Done. I wrote my own message though, and would encourage
everyone to do the same. Form letters are easy to spot and are disregarded. Change the subject line and write your own message.

Send your senators a message! They are likely to take up Dodd's financial regulatory bill on Wednesday.

12. I hope President Obama will support a truly independent consumer protection agency--
altho it does not say as much in the Organizing for America email sent out today. That's why I prefer the one above from Americans for Financial Reform.
