2. There was an ex military guy on MSNBC
who used to work for the SOS, I cant remember which one who said that he would expect us, even with benchmarks to not be out of Afghanistan for another decade. For what it's worth.

4. Again, at least there is a time table. You think McCain would have had one? Bush
didn't

5. HUH.
At least there's a time table?

Are you joking?

Staying in Afghanistan is the wrong decision period. Just because someone puts a time table on something does not mean it all of sudden becomes a great idea. Moreover I don't care what McCain or Bush would have or have not done.

What I care about is what Obama is going to do now.

10. What is the right decision then?
I presume you mean that we should pull out now, reducing the troop presence there by 50% letting the country spiral into the resurgent Talaban's arms and allow a theme park for right-wing extremist terrorist groups a safe haven to launch attacks against any country the want. Oh and they'll be right next to an increasingly unstable Pakistan who has nukes.

Is that the right decision? If not, please tell me, I want to know.

25. Easy.
Edited on Tue Dec-01-09 04:05 PM by AllexxisF1
Bring in all the necessary troops to expedite an immediate withdrawal.

Leave special forces, C.I.A. close to the region (offshore) to continue intelligence and attacks on Al Qaeda.

Increase funding for intelligence and anti terrorism agencies and treat the problem of terrorism as a police action in co-operation with world powers.

If the Taliban resurges than its up to Afghanistan to take care of themselves.

This will save us billions, lives and put us back into concentrating on our domestic issues.

How about that.

6. It would take at least half of that to do a responsible drawdown if he ordered us out now.
Thats fine with me. Its a goal, its realistic, and whether you like it or not, its responsible.

13. Yup...most leftists don't give a fuck about responsibility. I swear they disgust me at times.
They claim they want Bush to take responsibility and I'm like the chaos we would leave Afghanistan in after our 9 years of devestation if we did an immediate withdrawal is not responsible. It's disgusting.

Wouldn't a responsible withdrawal take time anyway?

Yes, this country is indeed going to hell in a hand basket. Maybe we're going to have to take to the streets to demand an end to this insanity. :argh:

11. What a stupid thing to say when theres a definite timeline.
That implies and END. I know thats inconvenient for your overreactive narrative but its the truth. It may not be soon enough for you, but thats still an END. You don't get to decide the definition of the word END. It all ready has one that isn't subjective to opinion.

And its now an undisputable fact that an end to Afghanistan has now been put into play as things currently stand.

18. We're not going to permanently defeat the Taliban--not in three years, or 30.
Edited on Tue Dec-01-09 02:26 PM by TwilightGardener
It will take the people of Afghanistan to make that happen. I think the generals and Obama know this, though.

I see poster after poster suggest we are, but they are brain dead Corporate Media eaters IMHO. Because it isn't the plan and never was. Nor should it be.

24. Getting the Taliban to lay low for three years would be a tremendous accomplishment -
It would provide the Afghan army time to beef up to be able to confront them, give the Afghan police a chance to re-organize, and in the meantime - without the constant agitation of crisis to keep them wound up - the Taliban would start to bleed members and fail to gain recruits.

If the Taliban WERE to lay low for three years, they'd never gain power again.

14. Please get a clue. You want us out now of Afghanistan?!
That's like starting a fire at a campsite and not putting it out --- so it could burn down it's surroundings. Your plan is just fuckin' brilliant. I want to be out an if I have a guarantee that we will be out in a certain time then I'm fine especialy since Obama is pushing a peace keeping and development force at the same time.

15. Considering that at least half of that 3 years is the time it will take
to draw down the troops, I think that's pretty fucking reasonable.

Also, it will be obvious well before that 3 years is up if it is really happening or not, and if it is not happening he can kiss a second term goodbye.

So much for those who think we are only there to protect a non-existent pipeline.

21. He thinks the American people are a bill collector
You know how it goes, when you've a bill collector who's calling several times a day, grumbling, rather insistent. What do you need? Time. So you pass it off "Oh, I get paid on Friday, so I'll have it managed on Monday." Maybe you will, maybe you won't, but it buys you time and a bit of quiet.

The President is buying time here. "Oh, in three years we'll be done. Promise promise."

And in three years? Well, who cares? We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Very disappointing. Very typical.

I would bet even money that we will not be out in three years. I would also bet that President Obama believes he will manage something in that time so that, in three years, he can promise something else that will hopefully gain him a re-election.

We're going to be there for quite awhile, and the power-at-any-cost Democrats are really quite fine with it.
