A BIG DONOR is one who gave over $200.00 to one candidate (didn't have to be Barack Obama)in an election cycle (this includes both the primaries and the general election).

A small donor is one who gave under $200.00 to one candidate in an election cycle (this includes both the primaries and the general election).

We gave quite a bit, more than I had realized actually, but it was spread out over many weeks throughout the primary and general, so we didn't really feel it. I wanted him to be elected so badly because if a politician can motivate cynical me to become involved, there has to be something there. This was my first time donating and participating, and so far I think it's largely paying off.

Disclaimer: My s.o. works in the oil industry, so I guess he's funded by "big oil" - oops. :D

Small donations to let them know I appreciate the job they're doing in the whole scope. I write to them and let them know when I disagree with something enough to write about it.

17. I just donated to OFA in order to help win the 2010 elections.

The first time I ever donated in my life was during the 2004 elections.
I realize that what I have given to various groups like DFA, OFA, DSCCC, presidential candidates,
and individual candidates has been small in the big picture of things, but I figure that if everyone gave what they could, it would make a difference.

I think if we can overcome voter apathy and give what we can,
it will give Pres. Obama more latitude to do what this country needs,
without having to worry about the media distorting the message.....
which, to be honest, is what I find to be the number 1 problem as to why
Democratic politicians have to be more cautious than Republicans.

In fact, I will be researching the Democrats who have the largest chance of losing elections

I know that if Jeff Sessions was ever put in charge of the Judicial Committee, I would literally want to jump the Bay Bridge!

Their primary purpose is to re-elect incumbents, and especially those most vulnerable. Not sure how you feel about primaries, but Lincoln could use some money about now.

local candidates and contribute time and effort to them. I want to make sure my time and efforts go to electing the candidates. Last cycle people showed up to make calls for local candidates and were told they could only mention Obama. There was no down ticket effort. I will support the democratic county party though. They at least tried but had no money.

I have never had enough money to cover all my family's needs, and I never will. That's the nature of life in America; for example, my wife is a diabetic who hasn't seen a doctor in five years. It would take frankly a minor miracle for me to have a hundred bucks to spare in the next ten years or so, unless I ask my family to sacrifice more. Accordingly, I expect I will never have enough money to donate to a politician.

Once, about eight years ago when I was making better money, I sent $100 to antiwar.com. I regretted it afterwards, though.

I am in favor of publicly financed elections. Just because politicians can't get elected today without money isn't good enough reason to give them money! It would be better to fix the system, so they don't need a couple million bucks every two years.

Now, if I had been flush with funds in 2008, I might have sent Barack Obama a few bucks. But to be honest, I have no reason to think I won't be struggling in 2012, and in 2016, and so on.

I was a small donor to a Democratic primary candidate, neither Obama nor Clinton. I would have been a large donor, except nobody was left worth donating to after 2 primaries and 2 caucuses...everyone else dropped out. Five months before my primary even arrived.

I did not donate time or money to Barack Obama at any time.
