Democrats' New Theme: Results vs. Obstructionism

Democratic National Committee chairman Tim Kaine acknowledged Wednesday that his party is "running into a headwind" and previewed a message we think you're going to hear repeated in races across the country

"We think Americans will reward results rather than obstruction, and we think we have a capacity to do much better in these midterm elections than a lot of people think," Kaine told reporters at a lunch sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor.

Voters will help the party minimize the customary losses at the midpoint of a president's term, Kaine said, because they'll want to reward Democrats for "heavy lifting" on the economic stimulus, health care and other priorities.

Kaine said that the DNC intends to spend at least $50 million to defend Democratic majorities in the House and Senate and win as many governorships and state legislative seats as they can.

That'll break down as $30 million for voter registration, new media efforts and other programs and $20 million to assist candidates and committees in key races.

Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele said in a statement that Kaine's strategy "is nothing but a blatant ploy to re-engage their disenchanted base and it won't work. But in doing so, Chairman Kaine and the Democrats have shown just how desperate they have become.":spray:

2. Republicans have been bad-mouthing government for so long that...

...they've actually made people long for better government. Ever so often the nation changes parties (the "pendulum swings") not because they believe IN one party or another, but usually because they DON'T believe in one party. Voting is usually a negative thing; voters are far more likely to hate a given candidate than support his or her opponent enthusiastically.

But now, this is something different. This is government actually getting things done, things which help the people and not the huge corporations. I bet it's gonna catch on. I hope so, anyway.

is sit back and accuse the Dems of what the gNOps do and hope for the best.
