U.S. forces will begin to withdraw from Afghanistan in July 2011
On a conference call with reporters to discuss the president's new plan for the war in Afghanistan, an administration official said U.S. forces will begin to withdraw from Afghanistan in July 2011.

"This will probably be the most misunderstood and misreported point," the official said, emphasizing that date represents "the beginning of a process."

Rejecting criticism that setting a public date would encourage the Taliban to wait out the U.S. effort, the official said: "If the Taliban thinks they can wait it out, I think they're misjudging the presidents approach."

1. I guess this is not big enough news here
Or maybe it's a problem for some Obama-Haters, that he's actually going to end this thing pretty fast.

4. Perhaps it doesn't say what you think it says
You cannot post an OP about how a long process of disengagement with no timetable will begin on 2011 and then chastise people for not getting "that he's actually going to end this thing pretty fast."

That's not what the OP says.

12. That is far from certain or concrete.
What the President will talk about tonight is a date by which he has given the mission that we will begin to transfer our lead responsibility -- that is, the U.S. and NATO lead responsibilities from that operation -- to Afghan counterparts. He will not, however, tonight specify the end of that transition process, nor will he specify the pace at which it will proceed. Those variables -- pace and end -- will be dictated by conditions on the ground.

Lotsa luck pulling that one of Obomba. I am sure the Taliban will accomodate your plans. :sarcasm:
