Why Do I Oppose War? (posted by request)

Because I, too, am a father pulling his daughter's lifeless body out of the rubble of what was once my home

Because I too am a grandfather who has just buried not only his children, but his grandchildren, as well

Because I too am a mother who cannot feed her three small children, because nothing grows in a war zone

Because I too am a soldier who is burying a good friend, and standing by the wife and child his friend left behind

Because I too am a veteran who can barely live with the memories that he has, and the pain in his soul

I am them, because I am a human being just like them and but for the roll of the dice I am living that hell

Because I am only in control of one thing, and that is what I put into this world in word and deed

Because every single dollar that goes to kill people in war is one more dollar that won't go to feed starving people left to die, due to our complete disrespect for humanity. War makes this disrespect all the more vivid in my mind's eye

When they used to fight wars of Colonialism the Crown took the resources and the peasants and natives paid the dearest price. Now the Corporations take the resources and we and the people who are sitting on their resources pay the dearest price possible. Look at the Oil Benchmark in Iraq.

The one so-called "good war" was WWII, right. If we had of stopped our monied interests, and others from supporting and investing in Hitler, especially given his rhetoric, and exercised strong diplomacy with Japan WWII would have never happened.

Dropping bombs on mothers and children will not turn the heart of a tyrant - you cannot create a harmonious and prosperous anything with war

The war tool can only kill human beings

Any man who tells you "we must go off to war" is lying through his teeth

It's far to easy to be pro war when the bombs are dropping on someone else's house thousands of miles away.

Why do you subscribe to the notion that war is ever justified?

1. The only good war is one fought in self defense.

It happens in every war. One country attacks the other country that has to defend itself.

2. Nicely said. Too many Americans think of Middle Eastern Muslims as "the other"...

...not human in quite the same way we are, which makes it okay to occupy their countries and kill their children.

To me, war is justified if a country is invaded or attacked (self defense).

3. Um, what about the Revolutionary War?

It's why I support war, when I believe it's justified. Either that or we would all be living under Nazi rule right now.

The Nazis would have never existed. So it's really the "American" fascists who were then, and are now, the REAL threat.

5. I have seen no war in history that could not have been prevented

War is abhorrent. The fact that men have forced other men into fighting for their lives is no justification for continued war.

If you are truly prepared to discuss all the ways the Revolutionary War could have been prevented, and still allowed us our freedom, do say so. I don't want to go into it for no purpose.

I always hear this Nazi thing. Hitler and all the others could have been stopped by people paying attention and actively seeking peace. They could have easily cut off his funding and ability to get parts or his war machine. Instead, American corporate elites financed Hitler and most of his horrendous ideas started here before he was born.

My family is French. In 1939 they sent my mother away to live in Switzerland as little more than an infant, because they knew what was coming. They actually lived through Hitler and Nazis, and SS men at the door. They were surprised the US came in on the side of the allies. Of course, it was Britain's call she answered. She would not respond to reasonable requests to stop the funding stream before the bombings began. I love America, and Americans. I am one, I was born here. But she and we are short-sighted.

I support peace. I want peace to be sought long, long before true conflict begins. As a human being I have to choose what kind of words, thoughts and actions I bring into the world. I want my words, thoughts, and actions to be those of a peaceful human being who wants the best possible life for all concerned. I would not want to bring war to anyone.
