With No Candidate, Democrats Ponder Predicament (NE)

OMAHA, Neb. --
The Nebraska Democratic Party is left looking around, waiting for someone to emerge and challenge Republican incumbent Dave Heineman just four months before the election.

Former candidate Mark Lakers dropped out of the race last week, citing a lack of financial support.

Lakers is under investigation with the Attorney General's Office on accusations of improper financial report filings. He has come under fire for listing pledges on the report from people who never planned to donate a dime.

The state's top Democrats said they have renewed concern about their next move.
