Senate voting now on FinReg cloture.. update: passed 60-38

Democrats just overcame their last major financial reform hurdle. By a vote of 60-38, the Senate ended debate on the final Wall Street reform legislation. Moderate Republicans Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, and Scott Brown voted with the Democrats. Liberal Democrat Russ Feingold voted with the Republicans, on the grounds that the bill won't be effective. That clears the way for a final vote on passage -- majority rules threshold -- this afternoon shortly after 2 pm.

7. Yes, but yet he will get bashed from both the left and the right..
and the media will spin it as a failure.. too much regulation, it will hurt business, but too weak to stop another meltdown.

11. Yay ! More power for the "Federal" Reserve.
Yeah, that's just what we needed. Feingold was right, and he will be proven right.

When will they fucking get it? You cannot reform corrupt systems by putting all the power in the hands of those who corrupted it in the first goddamn place.

It will not work with health insurance companies, and it will not work with Wall $treet criminals.

12. Feingold thinks another similar meltown is going to occur?? most economists highly doubt that.
The entire finanical industry and regulatory world has put in loads of restrictions already. This bill adds substantially to that. If there is another meltdown, it wont be from another housing/real estate/deriviatives type crisis.. but maybe something else that "no one could have imagined"... even Feingold.

14. The problem with the bill is that it hands over the regulatory power
to those who caused the problems. A private banking system known as the "Federal" Reserve, which is part of the Wall Street Criminal banking industry.

The simple solution would be to reinstate Glass Steagal, and roll back all the other bullshit de-regulation of the last 30 years. This is going in entirely the wrong direction.

17. Would you appoint Tony Hayward of BP to be the head of the EPA?
Would you appoint Bill Frist (known cat butcher) to lead the ASPCA?
Would you believe an organization called "The National Vegan Association" if it's CEO was a Texas cattle rancher?

You simply cannot be part of the solution if you are part of the problem. And the "Federal" Reserve is a huge part of the destruction of this country over the last 30 years.

21. Are you calling Tony Hayward an alien?
That's ridiculous. If he was extraterrestrial, he'd have a better energy source than oil.

Now stop the threadjacking already. ;)

24. I'd really rather not be negative
but there's nothing positive I can find in giving more power to the "Federal" Reserve.

We didn't need new "reform" legislation. We need to return to the REAL reforms that were proven effective for decades, at least before the Bush Crime Family and the DLC began systematically destroying them.

Just roll back every stinking piece of deregulation since 1981, and get our country back. It really IS that simple.
