1. Why do you post something people can't hate...but I'm sure they'll find a way.
Thanks for this.

4. I am a glutton for punishment :). I simply don't understand the people trying
To undermine a Democratic President on a board for Democrats. We need to show Democratic policies actually are good.

No, they need to actually be good. They will stand on their own merit.

6. You undermine people's concerns about war and killing...
when you imply its a result of people who hate everything, including positive news.

People have legitimate concerns about very important issues (war, health care, economy). You can have concerns and be a Democrat, or otherwise. You can like the president and still have issue with policy. There is nothing wrong with dissent about policy, and there are very important issues that really merit dissent.

Its incredibly disrespectful for you to instantly write-off dissenters as "haters"

And BTW, way to take a piss on a perfectly good thread. Is there nothing you will not use to wage your war against those who aren't also on the bandwagon?

11. Excuse me. You have no idea what my point is.
I'm speaking to the people who call Obama Bush3 and a corporatist who ruins the economy. If this is hard to grasp---then there is nothing I can do for you. You think I dismiss people's problems, I don't. However, I have a valid position to say what I say.

victim.

I do not excuse you.

17. "I'm speaking to the people who call Obama Bush3"
Maybe, or you could just be constructing a straw man group and lumping genuine progressive dissenters within it while discounting real concerns on important issues.

3. Betrayal!
Just kidding.

I can't stop thinking about walking around campus back at IU and looking at all the beautiful WPA projects that were done there during the depression. The things the "make work" workers built are still there, and are a huge part of the charm of the campus.

I hope that some of these jobs can be created in major infrastructure investments. And let's not forget the work of the photographers and artists whose "make work" artifacts still enrich our culture and our understanding of those times.

10. Tax breaks for businesses that hire new workers?
Tax credits are worthless if you don't have the money to hire people in the first place because sales are down.

Tax credits for existing workers for a limited period of time might keep people employed if it can take enough pressure off the businesses until we see an economic recovery.

14. If that's all he does, you're dead on. Also tax credits aren't going to
incentivize those company's that are in a holding pattern, probably should close, but are spending their own savings trying to weather the storm. I can't remember which MSNBC evening show it was where someone said the main thing that seemed to be an issue in the summit yesterday was all the uncertainty; are we going to have HCR? are the banks going to be regulated and forced to loan? Questions like this are not going to be solved by giving tax breaks. Most who could benefit from a couple or more employees, aren't going to have any profit or have had any profit recently to tax or to give a break therein.

15. That's a good incentive for employers who are on the fence about hiring more workers.
<<Tax credits are worthless if you don't have the money to hire people in the first place because sales are down.>>

No one said Pres. Obama's ideas was going to help everybody all of the time in every instance. If businesses' sales
are down, they have no reason to hire new workers. But with factory orders up for the first time in a long time,
that's not the case with many businesses anymore and a tax credit like this will encourage hiring.

<<Tax credits for existing workers for a limited period of time might keep people employed if it can take enough pressure
off the businesses until we see an economic recovery.>>

True.

23. There are measures that can be taken
To help all small businesses. The problem is, those measures play favorites and are designed to help large corporations. Business as usual.

20. Sounds like what he's actually thinking of doing is using TARP money to fund jobs programs.
http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/2009/12/04/us/politics/politics-us-obama-jobs-speech.html

For once, TARP funds may actually do something useful!

I believe Obama's thinking small business grants & loans, infrastructure construction, that sort of thing.

22. And that's the problem
If my company sells weatherstripping, doors or windows, which it doesn't... I'll get help. If I want to expand, which is insane in the current climate, grants and loans will be available.

This isn't across the board help. It targets certain industries and tries to force behaviors that are reckless in today's economy.

21. I ALMOST posted last night before I went to bed that I bet that job report was going to be good...
.... but didn't.

I knew by them planning this big trip to Allentown either we were going to have a GOOD report ... lol or a REALLY bad one. (But since I'd been watching the unemployment figures go down for a month, I thought it was probably the former.)
