Ann McLane Kuster is trying to draw the legacy of former president George W. Bush into the 2nd District Democratic primary.
Kuster's campaign released a statement today tying primary opponent Katrina Swett to the Bush-backed tax cuts passed by Congress in 2001, saying Swett supported the cuts in her 2002 run for the House and now must defend her position.
“The tax cuts for the wealthiest that George Bush proposed and Katrina Swett supported have deeply harmed our economy, increased our national debt by over $2 trillion, and they are now wrecking havoc with the tax code,” spokesman Neil Sroka said in the release. “Instead of supporting the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest, Washington should have passed tax relief for middle class families, kept the deficit under control, and invested in the job-creation that was missing over much of the past decade – that’s what Annie Kuster supports.”
Swett and Kuster are facing off in the Democratic primary for the 2nd District seat being vacated by Rep. Paul Hodes, a Democrat running for the Senate.
