There are no good wars, but the president is right about this one. If we don't stabilize the place, the Taliban WILL get their hands on Pakistan's nuke, and then, all the pacifism in the world won't help anyone.

1. Maybe if we had the additional troops in place...
we could have stopped the Taliban blast from killing 40 people.

2. you believe additional troops in afghanistan might have
prevented a bomb from going off in Pakistan? interesting.

or do you think perhaps we should occupy Pakistan as well.

3. No, this is a clear sign that we can't withdraw from Iraq.
Or we could invade Grenada again.

7. it shows how incredibly inept the Taliban are
at fighting a smart guerilla war. rule number one is always get the indigenous people on your side -you don't do that by committing wholesale murder of their children.

if we laid off the sloppy airstrikes for a minute and focused on getting these people some running water, medical access and maybe cable TV and we will doom the Taliban to defeat without firing a bullet.

if you take a look at McChrystal's plan, 90% of it is merely establishing order long enough to install basic services and maintain them, giving the Afghans a basic choice between those services (which will prove addictive) or supporting the Taliban. The Taliban don't have shit to offer but murder and suffering.

Luckily there is already a significant amount and Pakistanis who have rejected the Taliban. Much of what we need to do is strengthen those people. The Taliban will probably shoot itself in the foot by alienating the general populace around Af/Pak just the way they did in Iraq.

6. OUR Government has been approved to ...
send our DRONES to TERRORIZE these rural Taliban controlled areas. Our drones conduct summary executions without trial and kill many more INNOCENTS. Is it any wonder that the Taliban is striking back.

Stop the terroristic, state sponsored drone bombings ... that can only help the situation. But NO, we are not only increasing "drone terrorism" but sending 30,000 more troops to the Afghan-Pakistan border areas. How insane is that?

It's like we're begging to begin WWIII. :crazy:be

We terrorize their villiages with our dones in Pakistan, is it any wonder that the Taliban fight back ANY WAY they can be somewhat effective? State Sponsored Terrorism leads to blow-back.

It would be nice to see the people who constantly accuse the US of "falling into al-Qaeda's trap" also admit that the extremists fall into a trap when they step up operations like this one in response to conventional battles. There's more than enough history to show that insurgencies falter precisely when they seem to turn against "the people," which is where certain segments of the Taliban are in Pakistan right now. Bloody business.
