House Dems want meeting with Obama to urge Warren nod

Senior House Democrats are calling for a meeting with President Obama to urge the nomination of Elizabeth Warren to head a new consumer financial protection agency.

"We urge no further delay in nominating Ms. Warren and would respectfully request a meeting with you to discuss this matter," the Democrats write in a draft letter to the president. Many Democrats and consumer advocacy organizations have been pressuring the White House to nominate Warren, who first championed a consumer protection agency that became law as part of the broad revamp of financial regulations.

Senior administration officials have praised Warren and said she is one of a handful of candidates under consideration.

The letter is signed by Democratic Reps. Carolyn Maloney (N.Y.), Barney Frank (Mass.), Earl Blumenauer (Ore.), Lois Capps (Calif.), Judy Chu (Calif.), Ted Deutch (Fla.), Luis Gutierrez (Ill.), Charles Rangel (N.Y.), Mary Jo Kilroy (Ohio) and Henry Waxman (Calif.), among others, according to Maloney's

3. Pattern shows if Democrats plead with WH they don't get much..Repubz get the queen...so a better

approach seems to let the few republicans who support Warren to go to the WH instead to make the case...the WH has shown consistently that if the repubz want something they can usually get it from the WH. Democrats on the other hand (technically it is usally just the liberals) will not get the ear of the president that much.

It also doesnt help that Warren is very pro-consumer...the WH has openly made deals with the big banks and doesnt want to hurt that deal and so someone like Warren is bad for business. This is the real reason Obama has been holding off...giving him time to found a more corporate friendly substitute who doesnt have as much history to be picked on by the media and progressives (a blank slate).

It is still nice to see overwhelming support for warren though...very rare to see a true democrat who cares about the people being pushed as a nominee. Here is hoping Obama nominates her...i give it 50/50...if she were republican and corporate friendly (e.g. Tim Geitner) she would be nominated already.
