And here's an interesting article about Joe Lieberman....

Lieberman faces long, chilly walk to Saturday's healthcare debate
By Alexander Bolton - 12/05/09 06:00 AM ET

Senators are grumbling privately about having to work this weekend, but most have an easy road compared to Sen. Joe Lieberman (Conn.).

Lieberman, an observant Jew, plans to walk nearly five miles from his home and synagogue in Georgetown to make it to the Senate in time for votes on healthcare amendments that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has scheduled for Saturday afternoon.

It will be a long and chilly trek for Lieberman, who estimates the journey from Kesher Israel, the Georgetown Synagogue, will take him about 1 hour and 45 minutes. Weather forecasts predict temperatures in the low forties and a significant chance of sleet and possible snow.

Lieberman, a Democrat-turned-Independent lawmaker, was raised as an Orthodox Jew in Stamford, Connecticut. He eats kosher food and observes the Sabbath, which is Saturday in the Jewish faith.

Religious rules call for the Sabbath to be set aside for rest and worship, and prohibits work or the lighting of fires. Many Jews interpret these rules to bar the driving of cars since turning a key in the ignition is akin to kindling a fire.

“The whole idea of the Sabbath is to stop and be grateful for God’s creation,” Lieberman said in an interview.

But he said the healthcare reform debate is too important to miss. He explained that religious law makes an exemption for actions that are for the welfare of the community, and many Democrats — if not Republicans — think healthcare reform will help their communities.

“I have a responsibility to my constituents, really to my conscience, to be here on something as important as healthcare reform,” he said.

Regardless of what we think of him and how he's handeling this whole thing, you have to admire his dedication to his faith and his job.

22. Ah, his house! I remember when Michael Moore did something similar...
on his show "The Awful Truth". He went with a bunch of people to a telemarketing company's CEO (or similar) to illustrate the intrusion of that guy's company with their incessant calls.

Of course, the cops were called immediately.

(Oh no...that horrid Jeff Sessions is on CSPAN2 - and he has a big graphic! to illustrate his "accurate statements"...man, why is this guy in that position?)

21. So, he follows the mitzvah to not drive on Shabbat, but
is willing to ignore the various mitzvot that deal with caring for the sick. I would bet his rabbi might consider the latter the more important. After all you are allowed to violate Shabbat if needed to save a life. I would assume that many lives will be saved by HCR.

24. Did anyone catch Franken's use of 16 seconds a bit ago?
One of the Republicans had 16 seconds which he yielded back to Franken who then said, "oh wow! for my 16 seconds I think I'll talk to my fellow Americans about .... oh, well, my time is already up." :)

26. John Ensign plays the Kennedy card....
.... asking the Senate to support an amendment originally offered in 1995 by Ted Kennedy dealing with medical liability. Calls the names of currently serving Democratic senators who voted for the amendment then. (because they probably wont vote for it now since it would mean sending the bill back to committee.)
