My suggestion at the time was that they fund renegotiation of the home loans. One thing they could have done was to extend the length of the leases and lower the interest rates. The banks would not have had to go through so many foreclosure and resale processes. The prices on housing would have declined less precipitously. The people being given the opportunity to refinance under the new program could have been penalized in some way that would have made the program fair. There are various ways you could do it. The priority should have been keeping as many people in their homes as possible without encouraging the values of the homes to rise. Sorry, I'm not explaining my ideas on how it could have been done very clearly. I had quite a detailed plan at the time, but it is, sadly, irrelevant now. I firmly believe my plan would have worked. It was inspired by my knowledge of the European real estate market, and especially by my knowledge of the experiences in the German legal system at the time of the great inflation.

at all, especially with regard to Social Security. If he can find a way to hand Social Security over to his banking buddies, he will do it. That is my opinion. I base that on his conduct thus far. Whenever he gets a chance to enrich bankers, he takes it.

As for Medicare, the Medicare Advantage plans that many of us seniors rely on for guidance in finding the medical care we need is going to become much more expensive. That means that your Aunt Mary who can't really balance her checkbook any more and pops a lot of pills will be trying to locate a heart specialist for herself. It's going to be very chaotic for a lot of older people and some will just get lost in the confusion.

Further, the Medicare Advantage plans provide a lot of preventive care for older people. I don't see how that will get done once the poorer seniors drop their Medicare Advantage plans. It's going to be a mess. And I think that instead of saving money, the straight Medicare will cost more.

If I discover a gold mine in the back yard, maybe I'll be able to afford the pool. Financial reform is another near waste of time. Read the latest Matt Taibbi article in Rolling Stone. Creating more biking spots???? That gets you excited??? Maybe that accounts for some of what I read on DU: low expectations.
