The New Orleans Saints will put perhaps the finishing touch on their post-Super Bowl XLIV journey today when they are scheduled to visit the White House and meet President Barack Obama.
Quarterback Drew Brees described it as "one of the perks" that goes with winning a championship, and indeed the Rose Garden photo of the team with the President is a staple foyer poster in the headquarters of college and professional teams that have won a title.
The time elapsed between triumph and White House visit has been a bit longer for the Saints than some other teams because of scheduling conflicts. Coach Sean Payton said this time worked for both the Obama administration and the team, which is heading to Foxborough, Mass., for practices this week and its first preseason game against the New England Patriots on Thursday night.
